BC Computer changes settings all by itself

My computer has started doing some weird things while driving. It will randomly start cycling through the options in the BC, and making various changes. The date and time will constantly get updated and many of the other setting get changed. I thought it was maybe a short in the BC switch and button but I noticed that it doesn’t take any input from that when it’s occurring. Once it stops, I can go back and change the settings (usually date or time). This is basically occurring every time I drive it now.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Just before my alternator went, some of the BC readings were funny. Had to reset the clock, fuel mileage readings were way off.

In retrospect, about a week before it died, the oil reading jumped up about 2 levels. Either way it is likely something in your electrical system.

BMWs really do some whacky things when the battery is getting low.

Sensors for everything, from oil to taillights, yet it can't seem to alert us when the batt is on the way out

Op, are you saying that it will happen while the car is running, randomly while driving down the road? If this is the case, it's not your battery.

Electrical gremlins are to often blamed on the battery (for good reason) however, the screen cycling through the different options while driving sounds more like a (mechanical) button issue to me..

Yeah, I had them swap out the battery and they re-coded it but it’s still doing it.And yes, it happens while driving down the road, I even noticed it when I parked and was walking into coffee shop while it initially said “P”.

When they swapped out the battery, they said it was really low. I hoped that it would slowly go away since it slowly came into being but it seems like the same frequency.

So we swapt out the steering column unit that holds the blinker, cruise, washers, and it didn’t do it until this morning.

I think I have done the fuse box cable recall. I took it in a while back (maybe a year or so ago) and they did several.
