Moving to Bremerton,WA
Hi guys
Due to Job reassignment. I am moving to Bremerton this Apr and I am planning on driving from San Diego to WA and would like some advice as to what the best route would be to drive in order that I may stop along the way and see some great historical or interesting sights, Where would there be some great places. I have about 2-3 days to drive across. plan on 8-10 hours drives at the most per day. so i wanna to make the best trips of it. Where are the good places to live around Bremerton, quite, not too expensive but Safe... I don't mind to drive anywhere from 10-20 miles (15-20 Min ) to the Naval Base Kitsap. I plan on renting for the first year. get my feet wet, familer with the area first. Looking for a 1 bedroom furniture or without. buying a single house or 2 bedroom Condos. I would love to have a single garage to kept my M. ( I heard it rains like no tmr 24/7 ) Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Joe

Can't say too much on the road trip portion, cause the last time I did the Cali to WA drive I was in a hurry and bee lined my way up 5, but my intention was to stop by the redwood forest in Cali, and then take the Pacific Coast Highway all the way up (101) to WA. The PCH is pretty well renown and highly recommended for a scenic drive.
I was stationed at NBK for six years, so places to live nearby is easy. Silverdale is right outside base, but is a little pricey. Poulsbo is 20 mins north, is even more expensive, but more secluded. East Bremerton is reasonably priced and is only 10-15 min drive to work. Port Orchard is 20 mins south and is reasonably priced but the traffic back at rush hour is pretty awful. (Not Cali bad, but will take an additional 15-20 mins to get home depending on time) All are pretty much safe, with Poulsbo being the safest. Just use common sense and don't move into what looks like a shady apartment complex, and you'll be fine. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Vybz,
Thanks so much for your time and help, much appreciate that! Look in Silverdale/Poulsbo or East Bremerton FoSho. I was terrified of Bremerton from what everyone told me, but even the "ghetto" parts of Bremerton don't seem that bad to me after having been in Norfolk, Va, lol.

does it really rain in Bremerton 24/7? I guess I'll have to get used to a lot of that over the next few yr...

I've done the drive from SD to Seattle twice in the last year. 3 days is tight if you want to do any sightseeing.
What I'd recommend: take the 5 the majority of the way. There a couple spots where you'll want to get over to the 101. Around the San Luis Obispo area cut over to the 101. Take it through the San Simeon area up through Big Sur. Past SF you can continue up the 101 to the Avenue of the Giants. After that, I'd head back to the 5 and towards Portland. With 3 days, just these 101 detours will be cutting it close. Oregon and Washington coasts are tempting, but you just won't have the time.
