BMW Seattle Says MDCT update can't be installed

Took my MDCT in to get updated today.

Called me this afternoon and left a to say that the update would wipe out my radio programming and a new update that will work isn't expected until sometime in Dec or Jan. I'm trying to get them on the phone to get more info but WTF I don't care about having to reprogram my radio and other settings I'd like to not worry about the car stalling.

Anyone else been told there was a problem with the update after they booked the car for service?

what year is your car? I have an 09 and when I brought my M5 in for service last week, they ran a recall inquiry to see if my m3 needed any updates and they said no.

About a month ago I called my dealer and was also told the update would wipe out my radio. However, I got a call back about a week or two later and was told I could get it upgraded (and which I did about 2 weeks ago). My MDCT now works great - and so does my radio.

If your dealer calls other BMW dealers (whether local or not), they should learn how to get the current software upgrade for you - good luck!

PROGMAN V32.0 is around the corner. I would wait a couple more weeks for that.

Check attached SIB to see if your car's VIN is on the list. If so, call your SA and reference the SIB number and ask again for the installation. Although as already mentioned a Progman v32 is imminent (but who really knows when?), the current SW update (v31.1) fixes a number of DCT issues
BTW, BMW PC installed v31.1 on my car when they programmed the OEM Alarm, so I already had that update and it works fine for my kind of driving style

Thanks for all the great replies guys. They said they were having problems with 31.1 disabling the radio completely. So I'm going to wait for 32. They were great about talking to me in more specifics after I got their first message.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I've had issues with 31.1. Odd problems with the i-Drive, the Telematics functions completely being disabled and actually I dont like what its done to the DCT. Like I said, I would wait for v32 and go from there. I'm going to get v32 installed as soon as it becomes available.
