Oil change cost?
Hi...the warranty on my 08 M3 is has expired. I am about to do my first out of pocket oil change soon. I called the BMW dealership I normally bring the car to and they quoted me $385??! Is this normal? Seems quite high. I have searched threads regarding oil change costs in the US. They normally go for $200 so why are we Canadians getting royally screwed?

try independent shops (rmp, bimmersport etc...) i think they are in the $180-200 cad range.
brake flushes are in the $80 range please give them a call to confirm as i talked to them quite a while ago one problem is they don't open on weekends and are pretty busy during the summer months, so booking early is recommended |

The other problem is even for those of us in the US the materials cost, discounted for 9 liters of oil and the filter kit runs at least $110, so maybe on your next trip to the US if you are a BMW CCA member go to the nearest US dealer, tell them you're a BMW club member and you'll get 10-15% off the retail cost. For me that's a bit over $11 per liter oil and something like $12 for the filter kit.

I paid close to $300. Funny thing is that I didn't even ask for a quote, I just brought it in, because I wanted to analyze my oil. Man was I in for a shock. Anyone considered AMSOIL?

I have used Amsoil in lots of vehicles and it is a great oil but I sure would not use it in my M while it is under warranty. You have an engine failure under warranty and if BMW finds a non approved oil in your engine you will have issues with your warranty.

Oil and filter with the 15% BMWCCA membership should be around $100 then bring it to your local trusted garage if you don't feel like doing it.
Keep the receipts of purchase from BMW if you like but if it's still in warranty they will still do the annual one paid.

Last oil change I had done at RMP was $180. Much more reasonable than $300+ at dealer.

220 is for the non M cars. For any M (TWS 10w60), it's $380 (tax in).

One of the dealers quoted me $345 + tax a couple years ago when I asked about an extra oil change between the factory interval. I guess that's how much they want and they always tell you when you can afford an $80k car, spending $350+ for oil change is NORMAL. I don't buy that BS talk.

That's an oil change of a different sort and I think she'd charge more. Way more depending on what the "dealership" takes as a cut over and above her "shop rates"

If your running Amsoil and your engine fails, or any component on the engine fails due to the oil... Amsoil will cover all costs needed to repair the problem if the problem can be linked back to the oil, for example if it was because of the oil breaking down or what have u. I run the recomended 10W-60 in my E46 M3 but in my DD i run Amsoil since I get a discount at work for it.

Got mine done today at Calgary BMW and it cost me 240 plus gst. Thought it would be more...but did get the overfull oil warning when driving home. I will have to call them. It figures, nothing's easy in Calgary.
