My current recommendation may be to just get some Bimmerworld forged 18x10 ET25 wheels or wait for APEX forged wheels. Maybe they'll have a good warranty program on those too.

Hankook RS4 as durable next step in tire, then NT01. Don't spoil with RE71R, they wear too fast on our full weight cars lol. I am toying with the idea of Toyo RR, I heard really good feedback about them from my friend Nash who was there and took 1st in S4 class. Seems like they're really easy to drive with, pretty progressive. Doesn't get loose easily, but that's the biggest difference vs. NT01.

Thanks man! I think the RS4 would be the most logical choice for the amount of HPDE I will be attending annually.

You do have a good point about the warranty on rims and that's definitely something I won't be able to get with TE37SL or the GT4s. TE37 are my dream wheels...and on the bucket list to buy one of these days... hmmm

derbo I should have just sold you my TE37 SL BE... they were 18x9.5 and 18x10.5. They're gone to a widebody E36 M3 owner now

I was looking at RS4 275/35/18 and TireRack just told me they are discontinued now. My response...

Hmm maybe try the Dunlop ZIII (should last decently) or Federal 595 RS-RR (cheap, ok grip but lots of road noise on street) or Azenis RT-615K
/ RT-615K+

595 RS-RR is very sticky, but yes its noisy on the street....but its also not really a street tire so take that as you may. I love the 595 rs-rr on my e30.

They were shipping in just that box. However, there was a top cover, and 4 extra thick/strong inserts on each edge of the box to make the rim immovable. It didn't' show any damage so luckily, that worked out.

TE37SL double pressed black
18x10.5 +20 squared

I haven't decided if I want to keep them yet. They might go up for sale as I'm not 100% a fan of black rims on a white car.

A nice longer former post might be nice!

Impulse Wheel Purchase

I've always been a fan of JDM cars and the tuner culture they have. The infamous TE37 wheel has always been a dream wheel of mine and I had a chance to purchase a set.

Specs:
TE37SL Double Press Black
18x10.5 +20 Squared
BNIB

The classified ad said it was pressed graphite but when I received them, it ended up being double press black. I spoke with the seller and it was his honest mistake and we figured out some options and worked things out. I have to give him credit for working with me to deal with the mistake as not every seller is willing to do that for a private sale that isn't governed by like eBay or something similar. Anyways, here are pics of these lightweight wheels:

After inspecting the wheels in the sun, I came to realize its a metallic like black finish which looks awesome with direct sunlight! It reminds me of Black Sapphire Metallic which happens to be my old E46's color. The subtle metal black sticker is a really nice touch as well. I have yet to decide if I want the sticker on yet or look for another color set.

I was planning to get 275/35/18 tires but RS4 no longer exist in this size. I may get Z3s to hold me over for now.

Hub "Restoration"

Since the TE37SL do not accept center caps, I decided to paint the center hubs black as looking at rusty center hubs is ugly! My brother came up with a great template to just paint the hub from a cardboard box. It didn't survive after 4 hubs but it did the job wonderfully! He used BBQ high-temperature satin black aerosol paint which made this a dead simple job.

Suspension Squats

As the official pictures of Laguna Seca started to roll in, I couldn't help but noticed the car was squatting in the rear right after the corkscrew. These pictures were in the morning sessions when it was wet and I believe I left my suspension settings in street mode.

Looking at my rear inner fender liners I saw some nice wearing of plastic!

Even if it was in street mode, there is definitely a rise of concern that my spring rates were too soft for the track. I spoke to Wyatt @ MCS suspension to gain some insight and he suggested using bump stops to add some spring rate after reaching a certain amount of stroke.

MCS Bumpstop

Next time I take off the wheel, I'll do the measurements and see what my options are with MCS. It is definitely interesting that he suggested using the same technique as BMW M utilizes the front bump stops for additional spring rate at the limit. I dig it!

Till next time.

The Power steering spill problem

This was a problem with during my E46 days. During heavy cornering at track days, the power steering ventilation port in the cap would spill fluid everywhere. On the M54 in my old E46, this would just mean all over the stock intake cover. Easy peasy. In our cars, this meant the whole passenger side was covered in fluid. What a mess to clean up! I still haven't fully cleaned up everything yet..

How do we prevent spilling?
  1. Bimmerworld PS Reservoir $164.99 (out of stock)
  2. 3D Design PS Attachment $395!!!!
  3. Kaiv's awesome cheap method with BMW Motorcycle Brake cylinder $40

Being the 'thrifty' person I am, I went with the cheap kaiv method. Thank you for sharing this awesome workaround!

Parts List
  • BMW F650GS Rear Brake master cylinder | Part # 34 21 7 706 055
  • 5/32" 90 Degree connector
  • 5/32" Vacuum tube
  • M6 10mm bolt

The end result is a nice clean setup. Since the PS is designed to vent, I'm thinking about drilling a hole in the cap to allow for that.

Hopefully, this solves the issue!
