RUF and Novitec Rosso use Rotrex superchargers, very high end kits.

Also Rotrex superchargers are used in the Koenigsegg CCX and CCXR.

Tried looking at some flow maps and it seems the rotrex is better designed for high rpm cars

Right hand side air intake duct. After testing various locations this give the lowest air inlet temperature. The difference in IAT and therefore power between locating the filter in a shielded area behind the charger and in the air duct was quite large.

This will be further detailed when we release more data.

Thanks for the response. I hope you guys come up with a better solution than ESS's where the filter is unprotected to the elements. I know they say water is not an issue, but I'm more worried about track debris punching a hole through the filter and getting sucked into the system.

Ours is just inside the lower air intake.

It would have to be a serious bit of debris to put a hole into an K&N type filer. They do have a metal gauze which suspends the filter material.

Water ingress is also very unlikely unless you drown the filter.

Have you ever seen this on a real race car? I would be interested to know because we are not aware of anything like this and we have a large number of race cars running some of our software and hardware running open filters subject to the elements.

My concern is from my last track day at VIR where I got a ton of new paint chips on the car and a lot of them are in the vicinity of intake. I've never experienced this when I was on the Nurburgring or speeding down the autobahn. I guess the tracks around here are not as clean as the ones in Europe. I got a couple of chips that went straight though the paint and to the bare metal on the hood. I was not a happy camper but I got some trakktape for next time. I'm sure it would be a one in a million shot for the debris to hit the filter just right to puncture it, but with my luck, it would happen to me.
