Clicking sound

I didn't want to hi-jack the other thread related to clicking and the main bearing of which I have the same sound. I took it to one BMW and they stated they could not repeat it, although it happens all the time.. I was planning on taking it to another one that I heard has solved the issue before.

However, today I heard this exact sound is it the same thing or something new?

Man, that doesn't sound good. But I remember reading a thread with exactly the same noise, and supposedly it wasn't a bearing, like many of us suspected. The fix still required opening the engine from the bottom, but wasn't dropped. Remember the given explanation didn't make sense to me, but lost track of the thread. Do a search, and contact the owner for an update. Good luck man.

Huh, that's a new one to me. That isn't quite the ticking sound I had in my car (and that was one of the major ticking threads). You can check that older thread for all the details but basically the ticking was much more random, only happened when the car was warm, you typically had to gently rev the engine, and sounded less like the valves.

Unfortunately that doesn't sound good. But fortunately it looks really easy to reproduce, so hopefully they'll take care of you.

Could be a number of things. Fan, belts, combination of both. Doesn't sound like metal to metal.

I have a 2011.5 m3 and have heard the same noise after the 1200mi service. It only occurs when the engine is warmed up, and you do not need to rev it. If i didnt know better I thought you recorded my car. Still do not know what the noise is either...

Open the hood and make a video again around the top of the engine.

Any chance of it being the lifters noise? Found some comments from other threads that lifters noise is normal when engine is cold (not sure if it is right though)

Strange. That is what my ticking sound was like on the two 2008s I had but it only ticked when revving between 1 and 5K. Does the ticking change when revved?

Sounds like belt noise to me. Don't think it is internal?

Took it into a second BMW over the weekend for flat tire and had them investigate the clicking they couldn't repeat it so I took the car out at lunch and brought it back but it still wouldn't click. As I was leaving it start to make the sound albeit not nearly as bad as the video. Shop foreman heard it and said yea it was probably the main bearing so they kept the car and will be taking it apart now.

There sure are!!!! BMW Calls them Hydraulic Lash Adjusters, this is why the S65 doesn't require valve adjustments!
