I have been thinking very seriously about a c6 z06 or SS 1LE as a possible replacement. I haven't looked, but can you get a used c7 z51 for c6z money yet? |

C7 z51 (2014-2016) in my neck of the woods ( seattle area) they are in the mid 40k range although there are a few exceptions slightly above and below that number. A C6 Z06 is a special car and the 427 Ls7 is the main reason to own this car...id recommend you see & drive one. They are not for everyone thats for sure. |

$45k GT350 that probably could be had for $42k. I paid $49k for my 2011 E92 M3 6 months ago... I could also see going for a 2012 Z28 as a fun car in the $40k range, CCB's! |

Doesn't have the track pack, hence the low price. Pass. Those older Z/28s are interesting. I know a guy who tracks one and he loves it, though the consumables are outrageous. Not much choice in tires and the CCBs require expensive pads. It's the C6 Z06 engine so I think I'd rather just have one of those.

You won't. I've had mine for a year and am still in love with it. It's an absolute riot to drive.

My next car would HAVE to be the Miata.
Love that car. Small, nimble and tons of fun. I do want the S85 M5 though. Will try to convince my better half to get that one |

718 is the worst cayman/boxster IMHO. 981 was miles better

I actually drove both when I was shopping for my M3 replacement last spring. Although the 718 Cayman had the more modern interior + better features, along with more torque, the engine lacked character versus the 981's. I'm sure the 718 is immensely capable on the track, but it was utterly boring when driven around town.

No, just on the passenger side. I've driven 981 before.
So sad they got rid of flat 6 on the fun car. You don't really need stinking torque on these lightweight 2 seaters anyways...

Yeah, 981 Spyder values are not coming down from MSRP any faster than the GT4s... and maybe even more slowly.
I'm watching because as a weekend road car, I'm not sure a better car exists under $200k and I've lost too much money trying all of the competition. |

For sedans, since I'm a manual die-hard there is nothing at any price that really interests me to replace the M3. It is gem.
I have a goal (and dedicated fund) to get a really nice fun car in a few years if all works out well. Top targets are: F430 Spider (F1 trans as 6MT is $40-50k more!) 997.2 GT3 R8 V10 Spyder 6MT At a lower price level I'd be interested in 997.1-991.2 C2S or GT350. I'd also love to get an S2000 again. Almost bought a Z4 3.0si recently because I miss having an open top, nimble roadster, but decided to stay focused on the 3 cars above.

I would only buy a Ferrari new - anything older than 9 years can’t get the extended warranty and anything failing on it would be an immense bill. The GT3 is typically fine for after warranty work - easy to work on yourself and lots of parts available and independent mechanics. Not cheap, but doable. R8 V10 Plus with manual must be a 2014 or 2015 model year (after that they were auto only). Better than the Ferrari when out of warranty, but still not cheap if a major failure occurs. I believe that the certified pre-owned warranty can only extend it 2 years on top of the original 4 years, but I’d highly recommend the warranty if you can get it. All three are nice cars, but I’d just be wary of “bargain” supercars with no warranty unless you’re prepared for the cost of repair, which typically usually means replacement of things like engines and transmissions, due to no parts being available to repair them. Thanks! S. |

So I drove an F80 M3 (DCT) the other day and man, I came away very underwhelmed. A few pages ago I mentioned that I'd be interested in an F80 M3 as a replacement for my E90 M3 but after that, I don't think so. It was YMB in color, nice 2-tone white black interior but it just didn't sell me. It didn't feel like the successor to the e90 M3, it felt like a completely different car. I wasn't all that impressed w/ the power/TQ either. The E90 M3 is truly a special car.

Aside from that, zero soul. My car enthusiast buddy in the office just asked me how my weekend was; completely forgot to mention that I test drove that car, which I think is pretty telling. |
