This is similar to how Amazon is so successful: they hook you into being the one-stop-shop even though the prices may not be the best. And yeah, FCP is still making a nice profit. They are not going to offer that lifetime replacement deal if it was unprofitable for them.

I dont find the prices at FCP to be higher as compared to other dealers. They seem to be pretty competitive overall from my search on specific products. You can pick OEM if you want cheaper parts vs genuine BMW parts.

But what if a shop says they will only work on your car if they supply parts themselves...?

Has anyone run into that scenario?

Perhaps that is the only way they will offer a warranty.

Call your shop first before you order parts. My indy shop was fine with it. They even said they can only offer a 2 year warranty from their parts supplier so could not match the FCP warranty.

Most indy shops are going to charge you labor to fix a failed part unless it has to do with a failure in their install, even if that part is under their warranty. Its mostly about if the cost of the work is worth their while considering you are bringing your own parts. As mentioned in another post, many shops make a good chunk of money on parts mark ups to keep labor costs lower.

Bottom line is it depends on your shop and the amount of work you are asking them to do. If you come in with 3k in parts and that results in 3k in labor, everyones happy.

I just returned oil, filter, and air filter. Got full refund to the penny. Large flat rate box and two medium flat rate boxes will get it back. I've done it multiple times without issue.

That's rare, in my experience. It should also signal that they're making a nice margin on the parts. Frankly, even the two BMW dealers I used to go to had no problem with me bringing my own parts. They were still getting my money on the labor.

I have two M3's and therefore change out oil every other month. It takes no effort at all to do. But I understand.[/QUOTE]
In your case I can understand. Mine gets an oil change about twice a year. Pretty cool you get free oil for life with a little extra effort.

Looks like the price on a kit is down from $142 to $106. Or am I missing something?

i always cross shop with fcp euro's shipped price. often times, their shipping is cheaper or more reasonable and it makes up for the slightly higher cost.

part of the reason i haven't bought a painted "m3" badge for my second trunk, is the shipping is like $17. not a lot, but i'm not going to pay that out of principle.

Im a believer now! I ordered 3k worth of parts. Everything arrived in a week, all in good shape. Everything was installed and worked out perfectly. Glad to have FCP euro to help me save some money down the line on this beast.

I ordered it for that price a few weeks back and got it shipped no problem to clear up any confusion.

Yea and I would imagine that if the price of the kit goes up you will not be affected.

Agreed. I'd say if you haven't already purchased an oil change kit from FCP to pick it up at this price for it to even sit on the shelf in your garage until it's actually needed. Lock in a low price fo' lyfe.

I find their parts priced as good or better than other vendors. Plus their customer service is very responsive and willing to take care of any issue you might have had with their service. Plus, being from Boston and them being in CT, my orders usually take only 1 or 2 days to get to me using their free economy shipping.

I also got the oil change kit for $106. So, to do the FREE oil change scheme, I assume I need to hang onto the 9 empty bottles so I can "refill" them and send back after my NEXT oil change kit arrives? Is that how it's done?
