Split Armrest

Hopefully someone can clarify really quick.

I've seen pictures with a split armrest and pictures with a solid piece armrest in the middle. Can any explain the difference, what option would cause the split?

Split:

Un-Split:

I'll take a random guess and say that the iPod Adapter option is the cause.

Like Leg said, the split armrest is adjustable and slides forward and back, the one-piece armrest is non-adjustable. Since all US-spec cars will have adjustable armrest as a standard feature (listed under standard features code 4AE), all US-spec cars should have the split armrest that slide.

masmole, are you sure? I know it said that on the sheet, but this would be the first time a US car ever gets the optional split armrest. I am a little skeptical of that.

The nice thing is you can always retro-fit it. I think there is a DIY on E90post.

If that is the case, then why do US spec cars not get the split? What is the reason?

Let's hope that your interpretation (..and the wording) are correct. I have the split armrest in my 330i 6MT, but my car came w/ the solid, one-piece armrest.

Regular 3 series (328i,335i) have a solid one piece center console cover, all M3 have the split. The section next to the driver will adjust forward or backwards....

I believe it's a euro vs US spec difference.

All 08 and 09 should have the split. I have it on my 08 E90, though I could care less about having it. Would rather have the "split" Euro seat bottom...

Both of those cars should be euro spec, based on the seam a the forward-most part of the seat.

Well, that doesn't really help. Everyone knows that auto manufacturers only use spare parts on Candadian models.

In the UK, most things can be added as seperate options, rather than being part of 'packages'. When I bought my 08 e93, the split armrest cost me 110.

In Greece (and I guess in the rest of Europe) the split armrest is an option. The car comes with the single piece armrest as std. Probaly split center compartment is not an option in the US? If so I don't understand why but anyway
