PS4S vs PSS* vs PS4S*+PS4S

Hello, My E92 M3 has the following tyres

Rear Michelin PSS*BMW 265/35 ZR19 98Y XL
Front Michelin PSS*BMW 245/35 ZR19 93Y XL

It's now time for new tyres and I am considering the following options. I daily drive this car so wear / comfort is at least a consideration.

Option A
Stay with the same tyres

Option B
Upgrade to standard Pilot Sport 4 S tyres.

Option C
They make Pilot Sport 4 S*BMW tyres in my 245/35 but not 265/35, so this would be a hybrid approach.

Rear Michelin PS4S 265/35 ZR19 98Y XL
Front Michelin PS4S* 245/35 ZR19 93Y XL

My concern with this option is that the E92 M3 was in production before the PS4S existed, So the *BMW variant is targeted to newer chassis and not the E92.

My other concern is that mixing *BMW and Standard tyres might not be the best idea?

Anyone else run into this decision?

I’m running MPS4S on my e92 M3 in the front and rear. Neither is *spec. BMW PSS *spec tires have different compounds as well as different channel widths compared to generic MPSS. I doubt you’ll notice a major difference running mixed MPS4S-MPS4S*spec or MPS4S-MPS4S. You’d likely notice some differences in max grip and high slip angles situations. However, with the stock 245-265 staggered setup, the difference in handling/tuning characteristics likely won’t change much whether it’s mixed or generic.

Hey,
I am currently running your Option C. It works pretty well.

I think if you are daily driving you would like the Conti extreme contact sport 02 much better. Better ride and quieter

I would go with option B. I just put a new set of standard spec PS4S on my car, and I'm super impressed so far with the grip levels, and the comfort is a nice bonus (much more compliant than the crappy Kumho tires the previous owner had put on)

If you have comp rims, you could go 255/275 PS4S Star BMW. 255/275 PSS Star BMW have been fine, but plan to swap when my tires wear out in a month or so.

There's also a comparison of the PS4S vs. BMW version on the Tirereviews youtube channel where his conclusion is that the Star BMW is more responsive (likely at cost of wet handling). Pretty good vid.
