Question on converting to studs...

My car is going in next week for new tires and to have the ZCP wheels re-painted. After three plus years of ownership, the OEM black studs are showing their age with lots of oxidation and generally they look like crap. Talking to the mechanic who will be doing the install and he mentioned converting to studs. I am interested but not sure where to look.

I have looked at EAS and Turner Motorsport and they both have multiple options. Not looking for anything to fancy and want to stay with black. Any suggestions?

EAS has a Macht Schnell conversion kit but the nuts are fairly plain looking. Was also intrigued by the Blox Street series in black. Anyone have these with comments/guidance?

Another option is Turner offers OEM size bolts in black satin. Being Turner I assume these are good quality.

Thanks in advance for any comments/suggestions!

I have Turner Studs with their 19mm Gold Zinc Coated Nuts. I love them. The Zinc on the wear surface of the nut does wear off over time but the gold coloring of them looks great when they are installed (visible section is still fully Zinc coated). I also like that they are 19mm which makes them a little larger. I recommend Turner's spacers, studs, lugs, etc. They have proven race history which is huge in my view. They also sell plain black wheel nuts.

Thanks for the reply! I am leaning toward the TMS studs and lugs but was fishing around for something that be a little more attractive than the simple lug nut they offer. My OEM ZCP wheels are going to be refinished in a light gunmetal gray so I want to stick with the black bolts/lugs.

Any advice on whether to go with full thread vs the two different bullet nose offerings?

Bullet nose for sure - see link below. The version that has an allen head is the easiest to install because you simply use an allen wrench. The other versions require the "double nut method".... man that sounds bad. You also have less likelihood to cross-thread.

Turner Bullet Nose Link

Thanks, those are the ones I'm looking at! My only concern at this point is how far they will stick out on my OEM ZCP wheels (no spacers).

Looked at the KICs lugs but not sure I like the look. I'll either do these studs with the black wheel nut or I might go with the black chrome bolts that Turner also offers....

Any chance somebody has a close up of OEM ZCP wheels with 75 mm studs with either standard nuts or something like project kids r40's rather than OEM bolts?

Not ZCP wheels but here are some pictures of my set up with ADVAN and BMW 260m wheels, both of which expose the studs / nuts more than most wheels. I'm not sure what the lug pocket depth is on the ZCP wheels but this should give you an idea of how it will look. I have 90mm studs and would recommend 75mm unless you plan to run 15mm+ spacers.

One more rec for Turner bullet nose studs. Great quality and a breeze to install.

Definitely go with Turner. They are great for studs, spacers, etc. Turner is the best quality you can get.

I have the 90 mm black TMS studs on my ZCP wheels with a 12.5 mm spacer, so they protrude about 2.5 mm more than yours would if you went no spacers and a 75 mm stud. I think it looks great. (Note also the custom center caps by Luftkraft.)

My lugs looked pretty bad too (but mine were 5 year old). I also wanted to do wheel locks, but decided to go chrome to provide some contrast to the gunmetal face. I just bought these cheap lug bolt covers for cheap :

FYI, replacement lugs are only $2.5 each. The reason I decided to skip on lug nuts is because I don't change my wheels all that often, and kind of scared of the idea of using Loctite in the hub (I'm sure that's a misconception, but I was ok with lug bolts).

There is zero negative impact of using Loctite on the hub. You are right that studs are the most beneficial for someone swapping wheels often. The biggest benefit for me is that I can use almost any spacer without having to mess around with a bunch of different length lugs. This has allowed me to easily experiment with different offsets, wheel sizes, etc.

Yea that's what I thought as well. But I don't change wheels often (only to get to brakes or changing tires) and I don't run spacers anymore (proper size wheels from HRE ftw) so that's why I decided to skip on this mod.

I have bimmerworld 75mm stud kit along with Muteki SR48 lugnuts, they work perfectly and the studs dont stick out past the lugnut. I'm running properly offset HREs so no spacers here.

Here's the only pic I could find:

Mine goes over OEM lugs. Got them from Amazon for like 18 bucks. Just search for lugnut cover or something along those lines.

What if you want to switch back to bolts? Won't the hub be all gummed up? Is the loctite absolutely neccessary?

Threads are easily cleaned with a chaser or lug bolt in most cases.
