So my wife is pretty in tune to anything I do to my M and there really no way to hide things. Well, I bought a M performance steering wheel two weeks ago and put it on without telling her. So far so good until today when I had her move the car since I had worked on our daughter's car all day. She immediately noticed the steering wheel and was like "that steering wheel hasn't always looked like that." I had to fess up and tell her I bought the wheel. She just rolled her eyes at me and gave me a hug. At least she's understanding.

I can totally relate. Over the years I haven't been able to leave any of my cars stock. She use to eye roll, say, why, what now and so on. Now when she sees boxes on the porch she just says "your car parts are here" and goes on like it is just an everyday thing (which it pretty much is).

I can totally relate. I recently tried to convince mine that a 10k supercharger was necessary to "supercharger the longevity of the car". Needless to say she did not buy into my bs. She's been pretty quick to notice everything I've done to all of my vehicles in the past. Side note, she's heading out of town on Sunday. I have a catless x pipe being delivered on Monday and will be updating the tune. Maybe she won't notice....

I can’t leave my cars (turbo E36M3 and bolt on n/a E90M3) stock, either. My wife accepts and supports that but knows I am often working on them or they are too loud or something is wrong that needs to be fixed so she wants her car (E61 535xi) stock. She learned this weekend that I put a JB4 on it years ago. Sometimes I drive it so it has to be entertaining.

So very true...I find a small piece offering is helpful to avoid her full wraith.

My wife and I are still in the never-ending process of building her MK1 Cabriolet together.

She was the one that suggested we swap a VR6 into it...haha.

Yup. Her goal was to build the ultimate, tasteful girl car (she actually had a purple Barbie Cabriolet when she was a kid).

So, appearance wise, I think we nailed it. Now, it's in the process of getting the engine bay shaved while we rebuild a VR6 drivetrain to swap in.

Nice.

Mine bought me some extended paddles for Xmas a while back. Still not fitted as I can't psych myself up to piercing the steering wheel at the back. Feel bad about that.

Bought 993 and wife said I shouldn't sell the M3..says it's a keeper. Hates cars (or more precisely me reading, talking, watching about cars) but still gets it Lol. I don't feel bad about that at all.

OP you should rename thread to "hats off to spouses" or "supportive spouses" or similar

Had the later prettier steer wheel already fitted to my M5 when I bought it and wifey said I was lucky with that, she's not a car person but still looked it up and found out about it somehow, her ESP is unchallenged!

You told her? Actually told her the REAL number?

Yikes... Who does that?

Ignorance is bliss.

I mean she’s not a moron, she knows a thing or two about cars and when she got her 340i and priced out some carbon pieces for it she realized things aren’t cheap. She wasn’t upset just a bit speechless when she found out I have 20 grand in a car worth 25 grand

Just razzing you.

My wife has stopped caring. As long as her car runs, the bills are paid and she can buy her mountaineering sheit, she is happy.

We all have our hobbies. Most of them are money pits. But hey, you only get one shot at this thing called life. Live it hard.

My wife still thinks my M performance steering wheel & carbon fiber trim is from Ebay, and that I paid $200 haha. She also does’t know that I paid $1k for the proflex commander to run E85.
