For the record SV Bimmer replaced my bearings last year and they are a very good, reputable shop.

If there are some metal shavings, I wouldn't drive the car much until the new BE bearings are in.

Theres a big difference in "shavings" and metal "specks" in the oil. Metal shavings would warrant a new motor

had an uncannily similar PPI for my e90. same story of "metal shavings seen", seeping vc gasket, seeping diff seal, battery needs replacement.

the moment i got home i pulled the oil filter and had a look through a loupe. also put it up on the lift and drained some oil to have a look.

no shimmer, no shavings, no specks.

also the bottom of the car was bone dry. valve covers looked great, no seeping. rear end was completely dry.

finally hooked it up to a computer to run a diagnostic. battery came back in good health as well as the last replacement (registration) being within the year (?!?!?!?!)

i was completely baffled! mind you this one man socal shop holds fairly high regard on this forum and is known for doing many many rod bearing jobs.

not saying this is what your shop in santa clara is doing but the similarities are startling.

was he just trying to pull a fast one on little 'ol clueless me?

This scenario definitely crossed my mind...perhaps they were being extra liberal with the PPI for my benefit and/or to generate additional business? Who knows but I can only take it for face value. BE's are still on backorder, I'll be sure to follow up with RB pics when the time comes or a Blackstone analysis as well.

Finally! RB's replaced with BE. Below are my RB's which were removed from my 2011 M at approximately 78k miles. The same shop who performed the PPI also did this RB work. They were very efficient and car runs great. I'm far from seasoned in telling RB condition but if you ask me, I've seen worse more often.

Well, looks like car might have made it out alive from shavings in oil to new bearings.

Well if the PPI results were an attempt to get me (or my $) in sooner then mission accomplished.

Your bearings didn't look bad compared to other ones I've seen on this forum. And damn, your new bearings were on back order for a long time.

Yep. My luck seemed to have caught BE at the beginning of their back order window.
