What is a good dash cam for...
My track day is coming up and I want to buy a good dash cam for the track.
What does everybody use? I was thinking about the go pro but just wanted to see what other options there are |

I like the contour 2+. It's not quite as good picture as the gopro but it has GPS so you can see your laps and how fast you were going.
Also it takes an external mic if you want to add some extra exhaust noise |

Definitely the best idea.
I've abandoned the GoPro in favor of this for actual track recording details. the GoPro is great for other videos of zipping around the track if you want to build a movie; however, for pure "let's drive and get info" you're spot-on. - V . Oh, the LifePro iPhone case and bracket are second-to-none. Very sturdy and a snug fit. However, they are pricey and too bulky for every day use. But for in-car with Harry's Lap Time, LifePro is rock solid. .

I watched a few YouTube videos and decided to go with go pro and the lap timer on my iPad that way I still get the picture quality of 1080p and the data from the app |

I use a Ram Mount and a bluetooth 10hz GPS receiver, lap times are usually within 0.02 seconds of the official timing.
Here's an example |

Inside the car on the dash, I also tape a lavalier mic to my back bumper and run the cable through the car to the phone.

You can't beat the image quality of the Go Pro Hero 3. Set up the wifi remote or better yet, the app to control it with a live feed preview and you're set. I use my iPhone/iPad to view and control then a battery backpack for extended use times. So many mounting options and free editing software. You'll find other uses besides your car.

Im working on more videos Actually that was recorded with my gopro, and it was installed on the bumper. i really liked the result. I uploaded couple of minutes ago another video on youtube If you want something like that, the gopro is the way to go, especially now with the gopro hero3 you can see the screen, and control the gopro thru you phone. There is an app. Last edited by pepsih; 04-18-2013 at 05:22 AM.. |
