Oh yeah, it won't be ready for this summer. Good thing I'm in the novice group, driving slowly and not able to cook my brakes

To keep development moving I had to hire someone with engineering experience. He's at Fontana this week racing in the FSAE program with his university.
I've worked with 3 engineer/manufacturer consultants that each walked away from the project for either personal reasons, or they realized they overstated their capabilities. This string of bad luck has been unfortunate. I was also sick and had to cancel a major testing/measuring day the other week. My engineer is back on the 20th. His full time job until complete will be to finish these ducts. If it were only a few ducts I could have had these done quickly, but the volume is high, there are a number of different versions, and we're trying to keep everything economical. |

Only option I know is the OEM BMW GT4 ducts, which are carbon fiber, and very expensive ($600).
http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-21...otorsport.aspx Other than that, recently I saw this lip that has duct openings: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=545016

It looks like they have the ducts done. They're just trying to get the backing plates designed.
I saw that lip with the ducts but I don't know how effective it would be without a backing plate.

It's got to help considering there's no air at all going to the wheel well stock.
I'd be a little concerned about the consequences of air going into the wheel well at speed. Will it produce lift? I don't know if one could run ducts all the time on the street???

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

This simple project has run into issues once again. To make a long story short, two engineers from the FSAE team worked on the project this week and they are not capable of completing it in a timely manner as originally assumed.
This is too much bad luck at this point. I don't want to delay this from being available any further this season to those who are in need. If we weren't under the gun, I'd keep at it, but it's more important that people don't have to wait until the end of the summer for any reason to get any use out of the backing plates. I have been speaking with a few shops to see who can take over this project from here and complete it ASAP. We are not subcontracting it and selling anything, I'm passing on the whole backing plate project to someone else (hopefully a supporting vendor on the forum here). Who ever makes the plates can create a bundle package that includes the intake ducting (we'll supply it to them) that is already complete and ready to go, and it can all be acquired through that one source. I'm waiting on some calls back so I will update you guys with who you can source the plates from. I apologize for the inconvenience. -Eddy P |

I would try to contact RRT. They did a great kit for the E46M3 and sold tons of them (at least it seemed).

If someone is looking for the OEM GT4 ones.
I do not need mine anymore and would sell them: http://imageshack.us/g/94/bild003dg.jpg/ They were partly clued, so the remains just have to be removed. Quote:
