M power mode

Hey people,
stupid question i know..

but I have to ask...it How often do you find yourselves using the
M power mode?
and how often the M power SPORTS mode?

do you use it like all the time?
or once in a blue moon?

do you think power sports or power modes can harm longevity
if I use them all the time or switch between them all the time?

Any serious opinions from high mileage people / experienced?

oh and how can that affect my mpg's on the long term ? (i see no significant differences at the moment)

I used to have M mode be everything to the extreme (max sport on everything). But I had to turn power totally off. With power off it is easier to modulate the throttle and not use more power than I had traction. Sorry but that is the nerdy racer in me speaking!!!

It's funny because I have gotten so used to power off, that now that I upgraded the rears, I need to turn I back on for fun. It's much harder to spin 11" wide wheels, hehe!!! Thanks for this thread!

I drive with power on.
I don't like to have to mash the gas pedal to get any sense of input.
Generally on the streets only use maybe 10% of the throttle!

My non-M settings are used for boring cruising around town or on the freeway:

EDC: Comfort
Power: Sport
Servotronic: Normal
DSC: On

My M settings are used when cruising around the fantastic back country roads out here:

EDC: Normal
Power: Sport
Servotronic: Sport
DSC: MDM

I've found that Servotronic on normal is perfect for lazy cruising, and Servotronic Sport is perfect for more aggressive driving.

you can't turn traction completely off just by using m-mode... you've got to do that manually every time.

Not true, it depends on the year. I can in my 2008. Not sure what year they removed that option.

wasn't off. It was in MDM mode. Plus the roads were slightly wet from the drizzle of the rain.
With DSC ON, I know it's hard to spin out and go sideways so I expected with MDM ON it would let me slip a little more but not to the point of going sideways. It might've just been the wet asphalt accentuating the drift but i'll be more careful on public roads when its wet out.

I usually drive in normal power, comfort EDC, MDM, and tight steering.

Sometimes I'll use the power button or EDC in normal mode. I rarely use sport plus or sport EDC unless I'm at the track.

There are a MILLION threads on this....

Yes, you can, if you have an 08-10 car. If you have an '11 car, I can enable the DSC OFF option in the M settings so it retains the functionality of the 08-10 Mdrive settings.

BMW probably took it off in '11 because people were losing control so they made it an additional step.

Early 11's have it enabled as well. You can also code the car to enable the setting if it's not there.

always on. besides - my name starts with the letter "M" - it would be a shame not to employ the use of the "M" mode. :-)
