Surely you can find equally reputable or similar quality shops in the area other than the one linked to the dealer. They're usually the most expensive.

That shouldn't be more than $8k at all.

$13k?! Did they find damage to the radiators and suspension?

I'd get a second estimate, or post the break-down of the work they claim needs to be done. They might be overestimating it because they can't see everything.

With some or my prior cars I just dropped my car off to the body shop and they dealt with the insurance company directly. Lots of back and fourth as the insurance company never wants to pay. I was in a rental for a month but in the end the car got fixed as new. It wasn't the best being in a cheap crappy rental while my nice car was being fixed but it was done right. I didn't have to get involved with the numbers and they went above and beyond by getting scuffed wheels covered too.

I was hit in all instances so it was never my own company that was paying.

Here is the bodyshop's estimate. What do you guys think? My car's impact with the deer wasn't too hard at all. I nearly came to a complete stop before impact.

They have nearly 9 hours in labor associated to replacing the hood. Am I reading that right?

Damn thats a strange insurance that doesn't pay when shit happens. If the cap also is limiting your insurance payment I'd ride along. If not I'd run to another company.
Ps. And yeah, the work shop quote seems crazy too!

Hypothetically, the shop doing the quote pulled the bluebook value (~20K conservative estimate for insurance purposes).. then, knowing that >~75% of the value of the car is totalled, they put in an estimate for just under the conservative valuation.. hoping to get the repair job for maximum revenue. The 13K estimate appears too coincidentally close to the max for repair work on an insurance claim.

removing the panels yourself is not a good idea, especially if your paint is metallic....normally metallic paint has to be blended with the surrounding area to get a factory finish, you will not be happy with the result if u go your route. spend the money and get it done right....just my 2cents.

I know it is different depending on the state, but New York is in fact 75%.

Why will your insurance only pay $8k? If it's a BMW certified shop I'd fight them on it and get them to pay whatever it costs to do it right.

When I totaled my Cayenne Turbo, the initial estimate that came back was $36k. The car was worth about $50k. I told them they should total it because once they start tearing into a Porsche, they're going to wind up spending a lot more than $36k. I had seen 911 Turbo's with similar damage end up costing close to $100k to fix. Eventually they agreed that it should be totaled since it was close enough to 75%, and they actually paid me $6k more than I paid for the car 3 months prior when all was said and done. German cars can be stupidly expensive to fix after an accident if there is any damage underneath the car.

The shop is C&D Auto Body located in NJ. BMW NA sends their cars out their for bodywork and the shop has contracts with local BMW dealerships. They're supposedly one of the best in the North East.

So why is the insurance company only willing to pay $8k if this is a BMW certified shop?

You can take it to whatever shop you want, as I understand it. Not sure if NY has different laws or something.

This place is charging based on book time, not actual. That's why the prices are insane.

Yeah but they're argument was that while i have the right to take it to any shop that i desire, State Farm is not obligated to honor the shops rate if it does not match local rates in the area from other body shops.... Plus they want to put in a used headlight and aftermarket AC condenser along with used grilles lmfao
