Trade in Value - I laugh

Got this in the mail today from my local stealership. I laughed. Trading in is always a loss, I know.

Edit: total mis-read. I have an M3, not an M coupe...

Yeah, they lowballed me too on my wife's '07 E91 328i. It only has about 65K mi and is still under CPO (until Spring). Their offer: $12,500 I couldn't believe they were throwing out such a low number!

I also laughed when I went to BMW silverspring to see what they would give me for my 2011 e92 m3 back in 2011 when I wanted to sell it.

Coupe/white/dct/edc/9,000mile: They said 45,000 I lol

And those M coupes look suspiciously like new-body X3s...

Supposedly car dealers make most of their money during a bad economy by selling CPO cars. Most people are probably not in a position to buy new. So the dealers are always trying to get good-condition used cars in stock. Insulting, low-ball offers like that probably aren't a good strategy.

you never wanna trade it in to the dealership.
put your time in, sell it private,
I sold private twice and the price difference btwn trade in vs. private sale was $10K+ each time.

I was about to say that is really good pricing from the dealership. I would sell it.

Actually incorrect for a 2008 Z4M Coupe. They are $28-$32k right now.

They are all the same. Trade in is always around wholesale or 5% below low blue book. Why do you think most dealers have so many used cars. They kill it with used cars. New cars are tough because everyone is so educated and not willing to pay much over invoice. Used cars you have no idea what they paid for it.

Used cars they are making a killing.
