Believe it or not, that tiny little lip at the back of my Z06 supposedly generates up to 70 lbs of additional downforce at speeds in excess of 90MPH! The spoiler I'm talking about can be seen here: http://www.gmhightechperformance.com.../photo_03.html

I never believed it until I saw the commentary from Dave Hill...

I am not sure if I've correctly identified the "lip" on any of those pictures. Without knowing more, on a speculative note, the lip is most likely not "generating" the downforce directly. It helps to keep the flow laminar (as illustrated in the one of the links you posted earlier), and therefore increases the efficiency of an existing airfoil. A larger body panel is most likely acting as an airfoil, and if that is so, that would be generating the lift/downforce. Meaning, the increased efficiency of the airfoil can be attributed to the lip. Again, this is speculation though as I don't have a full understanding of the Corvette scenario. Also, 70lbs at 90mph is not a huge number.

According to my dealer fully delimited 310km/h are posible. Also he claims that the M-driver option wouldn´t be installed as soon as the car is more than 2000km old.
Hi,

I thought you have to join a driving course and the you get the speed to 280km/h. This fun cost's you 2.400,-€

You can't use a module like at the old M3 which was legal and German TÜV added the new speed in the papers.
Can you let me know how the dealer know's to get 310km/h and still all guarantees???

regards
Martin

I don't believe that 310 km/h is possible. The M3 reaches 304 km/h in 6th gear at 8400 rpm theoretically. Don't think it's possible to reach 310 km/h with the given specs at all.

The delimiting will only be done after (or while) the first oil change at 2000km, not before...

Package also includes a driving course, but it's not mandatory to join...

Best regards, south

It may be semantics because the end result is the same, but I suspect it reduces lift on the rear rather than generates downforce. Anyhow, a useful and not suprefulous feature.

hmm, interesting discussion here....i may consider keeping afterall if some of this is true. I only intended to delete because I think it isn't very attractive and would rather put something else on there myself.

You should consider this. I hear it generates significant downforce--you can drive upside down. The good news is that it can be had for $275. I'm sure you can find a way to mount it on the E92.

Those pieces beat my imagination by several degrees of magnitude. And I thought I was a creative person...

Yes, I like the subdued design as well, and it seems like it effectively traps all the air it can in its compression chamber at high speed, too. One just needs to add a fuel injector and a single charge igniter, and you have a ram jet engine in your hands--I mean, on your trunk. Form follows function; simply brilliant.

Keeping.
On a side note. I wonder if anyone knows how they institute or implement the limiter and test its accuracy. My US Spec 06 330i hit 159 mph easily, then I ran out of road. It was supposedly limited...has anyone else found the limiter to be "broken"?

Keeping. Honestly I'm not planning to keep it because of some aero benefit; I jsut think the rear quarter of the E92 looks too soft (almost looks like a Civic) without it.

If the spoiler actually hurt performance, that would be a tougher decision.

159 indicated was probably under 155; German speedos tend to read a little high because they are not allowed to read low at all per TUV. That being said, I have seen tests where actual speeds in excess of 155 were achieved on some cars.

I hope the M boys are aware of these sic looking spoilers. Either one of these would be a great addition (though I admit I am partial to the first one with expected Ring times with this baby bolted on to be in the mid sevens) for the upcoming CSL, not only for the aesthetic appeal but also the performance enhancing features. Only downside is it would be a bird killer and could easily take out a small plane. BMW are you listening?

I'll keep it, it's like the Gourney on my Porsche Gt3, it pulls down the back at high speeds.
