hey guys...just an FYI for any budget conscious folks out there. I was able to remove the stock light module shave the small tabs off under the blank botton button and use the internals from my buddies old light module to get everything up and running. Procedure took about 30 mins. Result is a stealthy black button that controls the rear fogs...nice.

What's different about the light switch for the '09 models?

So BMW North America was not planning to sell 08 M3 to people who live in some foggy or often-raining area eh? Or they had this planned out long ago that they know people will eventually figure out the rear foglight works and will have to pay additional money for that part.

Well, the US Specs is pretty much stripped down I heard, including those minor things... However, it should be pre-wired though...
I think the cheapest EU Specs is about $ 80-85K... (that's without leather seats and a lot of other stuff) so I don;t mind spending another 100 bucks on these mods...

I just want to confirm that this part 61 31 6 932 796 can be ordered from any North American BMW dealership? I will need to make the rear foglight work for sure.
Thank you very much.

Oh, you're right, '08. Is it just the knob trim that's different?

Thanks everyone for the informative post. I just ordered the Control Element Light #61 31 6 932 796 and am looking forward to having the rear fog lights operational.
A question though, can anyone verify if the rear fog lights are part of the adaptive braking system lighting as well, AND if activating the rear fogs will affect the adaptive braking system function? I imagine if you are driving with the rear fogs activated and hit the brakes hard, the adaptive braking system would override the fogs and those lights would work with the brake lights?

Let me piggyback on what Greg W wrote: The rear fog lights illumination has no effect on actual brake performace/distance or function.

Done and well worth it Nice mod...not quite sure I will use them all that much - but good to know they are there in case of adverse driving conditions - thanks all for the "how to"...VERY simple mod...even taking my time it was all of 10 minutes
