Oil Level
I just got my 1200 mile service and my service indicator is half way iin between the high and low mark. Before the service, it was almost to the top arrow.
Is this where it should be? |

Take multiple readings before asking for more oil.

I had the services on Tuesday and the level was about the same. The photo was taken today which shows the same level (maybe even a bit lower). I will see what is shows tomorrow when I have to go to the dealer anyway.

My other German car did the same thing, It's full ,it,s just the sensor.
Two weeks from now it will show full, or even if it's a half a quart down it will go down to the next mark. Very sensitive Nothing to worry about. Last edited by Captain Scott; 08-28-2008 at 08:09 PM.. |

Thanks. Why is it that it takes a few weeks to accurately read the oil levels? What if it really was too low?

I went back to the dealer 3 times, I had the same concern, and every time they checked the oil, it was full. One day it was showing full, and the next it was down to the middle hatch mark. I even made them change the oil again just to be safe, and once again the same thing----------- middle hatch mark , I gave up don't worry be happy. oh I forgot to tell you, if the oil is low you will get the low oil light...lol Hope this helps. |

Makes you wonder how you can rely on that indicator if it's wrong half the time. Mine showed close to the top arrow both before and after my service.

If the oil stays in the middle, I wouldn't worry about it. I'd prefer the oil at the point anyway. Don't add oil yourself until it hits the minimum mark |

No, I'm saying if all these posts say the indicator is wrong, how can you ever rely on it?

I would bet the dealer will come back and tell you it is normal for the sensor, and there is not a problem. But what do I know Also the OP had just done his 1200 mi service, therefore if the tech new what he was doing, lol, it would have been full one would think. |

Mine came back from the 1200 mile service the same way (showing 1/2 down)...and I took it back to the dealer. Sure enough, they had short-filled it (and apologized).

Naughty Tech. FYI, my problem was a little different. 1 day it was full, and the next it was at the middle hatch mark. Back to the dealer and was told it was full even showing in the middle. Two weeks later it was showing full again, blah blah blah |
