Map sensor replacement DIY?

I have been searching but did not find one for an E9x M. Did I miss it? Thanks!

I think I located the sensor; is this it? I think if I remove the air box I can replace it without removing anything else, thoughts?

Did you happen to find a DIY for the MAP sensor? I pulled the plenum off today to see if I could get at the sensor which is behind the last throttle body on the driver side. I didn't have enough space to get a t-torx bit on the screws. Seems the wire harness and the secondary air pump is in the way. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sorry but I did not get to finish this DIY. I had a different issue pop up requiring service and just had the shop replace it.

Thanks for the quick response. I happened to find a TIS online today that describes the process. I was so close to gaining access before I called it quits and put everything back together. At least I know it is possible. In a nut shell, you need to remove the plenum, remove the secondary air pump and hose, disconnect and remove the wire harness on top of the engine, and that should give you enough space to reach the sensor. Going to give my back a few days rest before attempting the job again. Thanks again.

So I replaced the MAP sensor today and thought I'd share a couple observations.

First, the job can be accomplished with a handful of common tools. The MAP sensor is located in a very tight spot at the back of the motor and 99% of the job entails removing the plenum, secondary air pump, hoses and the wire harness on top of the motor.

Here are links to the online service manual explaining the process:

http://workshop-manuals.com/bmw/3_se...ir_pump_(s65)/

Unfortunately the pictures are kind of weak. Thankfully there are several posts that detail how to remove most of the items listed above. The ones I found helpful are here (so special thanks goes out to W/// and DATM3):

I did not completely remove the wire harness, but disconnected just about every connector above the engine and those items running to and down the driver's side of the engine (e.g. fuel injectors, coils, etc.). This gave me enough play to lift the wire harness and reach the MAP sensor. That being said, I scratched the shit out of my hands getting at the MAP sensor. I started with 7mm nitrile gloves, but they were no match for the sharp edges you encounter. I finally ditched the gloves since I was working blind when removing the t-torx screws that fasten the MAP sensor and had to rely on feel.

Oh, I also removed the tray that the cabin filter attach to. This gave me more space, better lighting, and allowed me to hold myself up using the strut tower braces.

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have specific questions.
