I will get some fly by videos soon!

It will likely come on later. I have the Fabspeed X-pipe which looks nearly identical to this and it took quite a while to come on. It will also go off again after a while on it's own. Very intermittent.

Yeah, I read about that with Fabspeed's X-pipe with HFC's. I believe they use 200-cell cats while I have no clue what aFe uses on their HFC's. Regardless, that's why I'm going to wait until multiple owners of this X-pipe have put a decent amount of miles on it to confirm whether or not it activates the CEL.

According to turner Motorsport and a few other retailers, the afe x pipe uses 200 cell cats.

Thanks for the info! What do Fabspeed use?!?...200-cell cats as well? If so then I can see this setup tripping the CEL eventually unless they're using HFC's that are different.

There really is more to it other than cell count whether or not you get a CEL. If you get a 02 extender along with these this should keep the CEL off for quite sometime. If you don't want to get a tune just get a set of 02 extenders and maybe you get a CEL every 6 mos. I could live with that, just go get a $80 scan tool at PepBoys and be done with it.

We have tuned this setup before. It will definitely trigger an SES at some point. Make sure not to pair it with an MPE.

As of this morning my CEL finally showed up, about 5k km's (3000 miles) after install. I hope it goes away on its own, I don't want to get a tune until I have an intake installed.

Why do you say not to pair it with a MPE? This is what I have and am thinking of a test x pipe.

The rasp will be unbearable...If you do just the test pipes you still have the rear resonators which help with rasp.

I guess it's all relative, I come from a motorcycle background and always had no cats and straight exhaust system on them, pretty damn loud especially with the L-twin engines. Had to wear ear plugs on the track.

I actually want more rasp.. I'm on stock x pipe/cat and MPE.

I think the rasp is apart of the m3 characteristic.

True, I too like a little rasp. The MPE with testpipes to me sounded pretty good, although a lot of people who did this thought it was to raspy. Now you remove the rear resonators and well to each his own.

Thanks for the update! I prefer not to have a software tune. Bummer...

Yea, I'm looking for a setup where i can swap out catless pipe and xpipe without secondary cat and resonators, therefore if i need to remove it for warranty, I can swap back the stock pipes.

IMO right now the setup you have is ideal. If you get yourself a catless x-pipe with four resonators be very prepared to go to "rasp heaven," piss off everyone around you (including the Police), and sound like one of those POS cars screamin down the road sounding like total shit! Take it from very recent experience.

Now, pair a catless x-pipe with an Akra slip-on and you'll be back on track with your original setup. Good luck!

Just get youself a scanner for under $100 and just reset it when it comes on. If it comes on every 3k miles its a non issue to me. If its on as soon as readiness is available then you need to look for a tune, or go for some 02 extenders. These do delay the onset of the light even more. They will still probably come on at some time but will delay it. I would do a tune either way, you are leaving some horsepower on the table as well as driveability enhancements from software designed for the primary cat removal, BTW love my BPM Stg. 2 tune.
