Pricing barrier/limit - at what price will your M3 dreams not come true?

Just curious, for the people here that are seriously thinking about trading in or purchasing the E90 / E92 M3 when it does come out, at what price point will you not upgrade / buy? Rumors are that this new M3 will be significantly more expensive than the E46.

exactly... if its any where closer to the price of the cayman, I would've pick the cayman over the M3. After all, it's a porsche!

From looking at the past prices of the M3, I expect it be in line with a fully loaded 550i in price. In other words about 65 to 67K.

I agree. Especially considering we are going to have a 335i; that makes the M3 allowed to be that-much-more exotic, and I think will retail in the very high 50s, with most decently equiped cars in the mid 60s. (hell, you could price out an m3 now and hit 60K)

I'll wait til the bugs filter out, hopefully there won't be any vanos-oil issues w/ M5/M6 based V8. I'll probably buy mine second hand, as these cars tend to take a nice hit in depriciation, and I won't have to incur a possible gas guzzler tax associated w/ a highperformance, big engined vehicle.

I think the base price on the new M3 will be $55,250, that is with nothin! So, plus a gas guzzler and a few options, should price out right at 60k, so I guess my max would be 60K, but I will get to drive one when they come in anyways!!

In trying to be realistic, 65k is probably what it's going to cost with all the trimmings. I am saving my pennies as I type this reply. :-)

Over 65k would be too much. I would go for the 6 instead. Unless it looks as pimp as the 6.

that'd be tough, I'm a huge BMW guy and the new Z4 fixes the main problems which are the electronic steering (little feedback) and gives it more power (225 ->330 hp)

I would think that once they give the Z4 more power and better steering feel, (and give it the E46 M3 motor, not a E90 motor with valvetronic)

It would be a difficult choice, but since performance and price will probably be pretty similar I'd lean porsche, just because I don't want to buy a car I already have (even though it's upgraded)

If it's a 4 door, then I would just keep the E90 I already have... No point of paying another 30k just for the upgraded engine. It's just not worth it for me. But if I want a performance and a fun car to drive for around 70k OTD, then the cayman is good enough for me.

Hmmmmm, Id say that if it hits 66-68 I would defintiely consider a Porsche 911 over the M3. A USED 911 of course. I think it will be in the mid 60's with all the goodies. But like someone already mentioned in a years depriciation time it probably can be had for 7-10k less. Of course theres all the first year car blues. But with BMW once you get a good car, its good for life. Thats been my experience.

The M3 will most like run 55K to low 60K. The cabrio will be low 70K.

gotta admit that you're pretty smart. There is no way im buying a brand new M3. It costs waaayy too much. I would just buy a used one (2 or 3 years old) for about 2/3 of the original price.

Seriously though I fucking want a Porsche Cayman. That is one sexy bitch! Its $59k base price. The current M3 is $49k base price. The new M3 will most likely be within $5k. It depends on how the new M3 looks. But I would def. pick Cayman over M3. SOrry BMW!!

The Cayman is most def. worth the money, I went to the show last night and they had a red one availble for seating, I was oogling the car so much that I never bothered to look at the sticker right in front of me. It has plenty of head room, I'd need the sports seats for sure to allow more room for my legs. The exterior design is bar none, even better looking than a AM V8 Vantage IMHO. From what I've heard the performance is at the same level of being in a class by itself. I've driven a Tip S Boxster S(987)- totally fun car to drive if a little slow, the Cayman can do nothing more than only improve upon the Boxster S's performance.. and it appears the cars are in two totally different leagues(from a performance stand point). I've been a Porsche fan since I was in diapers, and this car is really and truly the icing on the cake for me.

As a side note: In a time now where car makers are using revolutionary approaches to their design philosiphies, Porsche is simply doing what it does best; powerful, purposeful, and above all, calssic Porsche design. Major props to them for sticking to what they know.
