UCP is a worthy mod, for the pedal height, adjustability and the lack of movement in the pedal travel.

Im at 86k and my clutch is starting to go, I think its probably a combination of the previous owner(s), I bought it at 52k, and my commute in stop and go traffic. its not totally slippling just barely now and the catch point is suuuuper late in the pedal.

I’ve always shifted down to an appropriate gear when slowing and have 160k on the original clutch in my 04 330i. I think what causes more wear is mashing on the gas too much while slipping the clutch getting into gear.

Stock clutch at 102,700km. Still shifts like a boss around Suzuka. Love that head bang every gear shift.

Ok. I have an 08 E92 M3 6 spd , I was turning onto traffic and accelerated out of first gear, and I hear a LOUD metal pop! I look on my dash and there are no warning lights, initially anything above 3k (rpm) there was a tin can rattling sound. The only other issue I noticed was it was harder to get into gear, especially 1st and reverse at a stop.
I got to work (did not drive long) and checked under the hood and car, no leaks, no smells.... I have to drive the car home and the rattling is present in all rpm and progressively get faster as the car goes. Then about 10 minutes into the drive, all noises have gone away. So, my thoughts are something happened to the clutch plate, like one of the fins bent and eventually broke off...I can still get into gear, it is just a tad bit harder....the car pulls properly and no noises.... I have an extended warranty on the car but certain manual transmissions parts (clutch and flywheel) are not covered. My question is, did i miss anything or possibly mis-diagnose something? thank you in advance. |

I have 120k miles on original clutch. Bought car new, learned to drive manual on this car(I'm sure I've done some damage from the very beginning). I'm seeing a possible sign of wear(thumping sound when depressing the clutch in 1st) but I don't have a clue when a clutch is bad and needs to be replaced. Other than that thumping sound, car drives fine. Unless that sound is sign of things to come...
Oh, the shifter has a little play when in neutral. There are parts to replace that'll correct it but was advised to swap when doing the clutch. I'm gonna wait.

I've been told that the clunk\thump noise when depressing the clutch in first is normal, my car has always done it. |

122K mi on original clutch, '08 model. I think just drive it smartly and for example, don't be an idiot and try to lug the engine in 5th gear when at low rpm.......no reason why the clutch can't last for 200K mi.
