I have driven to Hallett and back from Dallas many times, it's approx 4.5hrs and worth it as it is one of my favorite tracks. I usually take a half-day off work Friday and leave Friday afternoon. Stay for Friday/Saturday night and just do the long haul back Sunday at the end of the day, often skipping the last session of the day to load up. Makes for an exhausting day of work on Monday but worth it.

More street. Price wise the Clubsport isn’t that much more and they are plentiful to find used for good deals, but the V3 with springs swapped to be linear springs instead of the progressive springs they find with could maybe be a decent budget option. Although I am not certain how those are valved to where they can take a significant spring swap... What are your goals? Serious track use? A few times a year? Probably fine for a few times a year though Ohlins R&T or MCS1-way NR might be more suggested options depending on the answer.

reality - wife already disliked me leaving her to go play with the boys driving around in circles ... and then came the baby and planning on another so she really really does not like me going to the track and leaving her alone with the baby so i don't know when my next track day will be i'm on stock EDC suspension, 82k miles figured I need to refresh the suspension at some point so looking for a budget friendly way to do some double duty for occasional track day

It was a trap. Notice how I'm not around much anymore? Lol just kidding we had some house projects going.
Mrs beef likes cars. She's not interested in doing maintenance or track driving, but she does enjoy track days, looking at cars, sounds, and the occasional ride. It's been tougher to get out with her now that we have a few big dogs, but I'll be getting a trailer soon and the whole family can come.

hey guys,
just picked up an e90 M3 after years out of the game and thinking about coilovers. Mainly Ohlins R&T vs KW CS. The Ohlins with GC camber plates are about the same price as the KWs so that's a draw. I'm reading the KW have clearance issues with running 275 tires up front. This would require swapping springs correct? Also, the consensus seems to be that Ohlins are softer. This car will not be a daily (maybe 3 days out of the week) and will see a few track days a year. Maybe 4-5. Which is the better option? Appreciate your suggestions! |

Between the two I think Ohlins does a better job for double duty, springs are a tad softer but that's not always a bad thing. I've had two sets of KW's and both had one shock take a crap on me in the first 10k miles. The biggest issue (like you said) is some 275's will hit depending on the tire without a spacer. What wheel and tire setup do you plan to run?

I would lean towards Ohlins, and then if track is srs add in adjustable sway bars and end links. The complaint most have about Ohlins for serious tracking is as Alex mentioned, the springs are too soft (the valving can handle more spring though). Since a sway bar is essentially a spring, and an adjustable one at that, you can "add spring" on track days by adjusting your sway bars, and then dial it back for the street.

My vote in this case is the Ohlins again. They are a great setup for daily/street
But a simple spring swap and the KW's Do fit up to 11" wheels and 295's up front with no clearance issues at a proper ride height.

I thought I plop this in here in case anyone is looking for a nicely equipped dual-duty e92 M3. I'm going to a race car, trailer and X5 for tow vehicle.

That's a fucking joke. It means they have no confidence in their product and are basically only covering some sort of gross manufacturing defect you'll discover during the first test drive.

I'll post more in a few days. I considered gutting the E92, but decided to look for a car ready to race. Looking at NASA, BMW CCA and WRL. Flying to Atlanta for X5 diesel tow vehicle on Sunday.
