Let's try again - Custom Diff with DCT
So we are back at this again, to solve a dilemma I had a while back.
I always wanted to get a custom differential for my track worthy e92 DCT but my issue was tuning. Nothing has caught my attention as to how the tuning would react to a custom built diff. Allow me to explain: I currently have a stock diff with a GTS tune. On down shifts car snaps the revs up immediately without hesitation..much like a track car should aka Porsche GT3's. I've seen many DCT cars with upgraded differentials and when I drive them or see videos, the downshifts are not crisp and snappy as the "OEM" system with a tune. Has anyone resolved a proper tune? I apologize if this was covered somewhere, I'm hardly on the forums much anymore. |

There are a few tunes available, I think even Alpine has one. https://alpinemss.com/products/e9x-m...ar-ratio-flash

In case you have an Epic Tune, they also offer a custom ratio DCT tune: LINK.
I haven't tried these myself but did have a 3.45 ratio on a DCT car in the past and felt like the DCT tunes were a little off on the shift timing, glad they appear to have solved this now. Of note, I just installed an OS Giken diff but with the standard 3.15 DCT gearing, will be trying it out in the next few weeks with the OEM BMW GTS DCT tune. Likely good since I didn't change the ratio.

I have DCT, 3.45 FD, OS Giken LSD, Alpine GTS tune (for 3.15 FD) and MFactory CF DS. The 3.45 and Giken went in together last of all. I do not recall noticing any downshift delays before/after the mods. I have vids but you can't see my hands so not sure if they are useful. Downshift blips are as sharp/fast as before.

The Europeans seem to have this figured out just fine too if you go watch Nurburgring videos. I'm pretty sure one of the standard components of a "ring lapper" is 3.62 gears and a good diff (seems like most of them prefer Drexler).

A proper clutch-type diff is one of the best mods I ever did, and very good for fast street driving too. You won't regret it.

The issue we are dealing with is a bit more complicated.
yes, there is the downshift and the blip and you can hear and see this in the video. What you can't see in the video is the driver input. You don't see WHEN the driver is clicking the shifter, and WHEN the car react to the input. What makes the OEM satisfying, is that the timing of the shift happens with no delay and then the car blips at the correct time. So the issue that is difficult to answer, will nicksm3 would like the timing of the input, the car reaction to the input and the quality of the downshift. |

Drexler GT Lite setup from Florian driftflo with 3.62 FD. Used his recommendation on the tuning. Works flawlessly every time - zero issues. No delay to the shifts, blips are perfect. Absolutely awesome setup - I have multiple and will continue to use Florian anytime we need a diff (including on the M4 race build we are getting ready to start).

I too have a 3.62 from Florian and a DCT 3.62 tune from Epic. I've had 0 issues with the tune, blips perfectly on downshifts.
Shoot me a text Nick and I'll send you some videos.

I've heard great things about Oliver and his ability to get the 3.62 and 3.85 tuned, however, I was unable to ever schedule anything with him. This was late 2020 when I was trying to buy/schedule. I went with Epic and have been happy with his solution, but was definitely more expensive than Oliver quoted me.

Was it you I was speaking with in 2020/2021 that has the Alpine tune? What was ever the outcome with the downshift blips?
