Antigravity ATX-30rs

I recently decided to install a light weight battery on my E92 M3 6MT, I considered many different types and end up choosing an Anti-gravity ATX-30rs, the RS is their new line of restart technology battery with built-in BMS. There is a good thread where some good points were brought up.

After Driving for a few days, I drove down 3 hours to Buttonwillow raceway. I was at the track all day with 25 restart for in and out of track, getting gas and air.
Had a drive to work with 1 hour of stop and go traffic. The battery is still working well.

At home I keep it on a Lithium charger recommended by Antigravity (Optimate LiFePO4 Lithium 12 Volt 5 A Battery Charger/ Tester) I also purchased a terminal adapter. (XS Power 580 Short Brass Post Adaptor (M6 Thread)) from amazon, to assist a proper install. I designed a mounting tray and holder on CAD and 3D printed it. Should be good for 30lbs, the ATX-30rs weighs about 5lbs. I designed it so it fits on factory points and uses the same holder, no modification made to the car. I did have to modify the positive bus terminal, I cut the excess area so it will fit over the battery and not obstruct the terminals. Here is a little info on the battery
. I designed a new cover for the newly sized positive bus.

I can share my CAD drawings for free just shoot an PM and I'll send the files. Sorry I'm not making or selling this, just sharing my outcome of the battery being a option for e9x platform. I know that antigravity is making new battery mounting trays but it wasn't on time for me so I made my own.

The pictures below show the weight of the factory battery and install pics

Maybe two of them would make a good daily driver weight saver. Do they work at -20F? That is about as cold as it got last winter here in NH. At least older Li batteries stop functioning at some temperature below freezing.

Never tested on cold weather, living in California but when I spoke with anti-gravity they mentioned that all you need to do is turn on your headlights for sometime which helps warm up the battery. If you need more capacity they have another battery called RS 30 which is even bigger capacity than the one I purchased. I chose this one because it was what I felt it fit my need. The naming other batteries are kind of confusing. The ATX 30RS is a 30 cell battery(18 amph). The RS-30 is a 30 amp hour battery.

Very nice job on the install! I have tried small batteries in the past in my E36M3 and they did not last. I would probably need 2 of the 30AH and will keep them in mind for when I decide to spend some money lightening a car.

For -20 you can buy a battery warmer if you want to use these. counterintuitively with this chemistry you’re more likely to be able to start the car after it sits outside all night if it has a 100w or whatever element drawing on it (and keeping it in a temp range it actually works) than if you disconnect it from all load and start it dead cold.

Still no issue with the battery. Heading to Laguna Seca this Sunday, with all day driving. I'll report back on results.

Update. A weekend at laguna and the Battery once again no issues. Also got a chance to weigh my car. Which weight was the main reason for this mod. With full interior and sunroof, minus rear seat car is at 3370 lbs.
still happy with the results.

Sunroof delete is next. That's about 30lbs. Not sure what else I can reduce weight on

Brakes are better with anti-knock back springs. Car has full interior just rear seat out for a half cage.

Chiming in because it's nice to see someone else keeping things updated. I too searched around and couldn't find much, for those of you doubting this I hope this helps. I have the bigger version of this, the RS30 and I have to say it's been amazing. No issues and it's powering a full load, mine is in a Volvo but still it's around the same amount of draw being a full size European car with all the features.

Mine is a DD/fun car.

Your mount looks pretty light so I'm guessing you lost about 50 lbs. I lost 26 lbs when I swapped my factory battery for an Optima redtop with the bimmer world mount kit.

I'm using the OEM mount, a simple brace bar. It works perfect, my total weight loss was a bit over 45lbs. I think a key note worth mentioning, the batteries on/off feature is what really sets it apart. As with most European cars, some work requires the power to be killed. Having an on off button is extremely useful. As a DIY guy this has saved me a ton of time.

Update, hit our first mid 30's overnight weather. Car fires up beautifully, even after sitting for 3 days and not turned over once.

Brought in for a CCM calibration, Tech was impressed how long the car stayed on without any issue (Lights on, Climate control fan speed maxed and software updating, all while no engine power). Stated that usually most die under these calibrations unless turned over.

Still turning over fine, a little slow after letting the car sit or over the week in sub 35 degree temps (as low as 18 degrees). It has not triggered the auto shutoff feature yet.

Your experience mirrors mine with the Voltphreaks. i.e., Car has been sitting for most of a month now and I just plugged the battery in last night. THe charger went green (trickle/maintenance charging only, not "charging" which is a red light") after < 1 minute. The antigravity is promising at half the cost!

Ah yes, but you can't go wrong with VP. I remember when they were one of the only ones out years ago, when I had my FD. Many of my FD track buddies ran them an had great experiences. VP was an still is a great alternative to braille (which is way too much $$$).

I'm definitely happy with this purchase, at sub $700 an cutting over 45lbs it's well worth it, especially if you have a very light track toy as the benefit will be much greater.
