Frozen Paint - Has anyone had to repaint?
Pretty self-explanatory... Looking for Frozen paint owners that have repainted their front bumper. How much did it cost?
Picking up my frozen blue soon, and there's a nick in the front bumper, that they can't get out without repainting. Trying to figure out the value... Thanks! |

I've got Frozen red and have a couple buddy's that have Frozen Gray. One of them decided to have his front bumper repainted due to a minor accident and some heavy track days at the 'Ring....he went through the BMW owned paint and body shop in Garching, Germany and it cost him roughly 1200EUR (~$1550) to repaint the front bumper...

Thanks for the input - I can't seem to look on my phone - what color do you have, and is it a perfect match if you follow the BMW color guide?

Would you be able to contact BMWNA with regards to their recommended paint/body shops in your area that can do frozen paint?

O/T but every time I see frozen paint I like it more and more, it seems to ignore light, always gives the car a good line.
Carry on.

Frozen paint intimidates a lot of painters....spray it too fast or too slow...and the color will not come out right....at times...if the color is way off...then they have to repaint the piece all over again...I think thats what causes the premium for frozen repaint

That car had more than front bumper only done. It included entire right side of the car as well. Here it is.

OP, you bought that car used? I didn't get that impression from your other post. I also got the impression you bought it from a BMW dealer... they won't paint it?

I received a few quotes at the end, and as someone here mentioned (thanks btw), it would be around $600-$700. Bottom line, I drove the car off the lot today after getting the discount, so I don't need to wait until the end of the month to take delivery No bra, so will eventually need to reprint, so thanks all for the comments!! |

You sure can, it won't look terrible, it'll just make it glossy again. The only difference between matte paint and glossy paint is the clearcoat; they both start with the same basecoats.
As mentioned here, the top three paint protection film brands come in matte now, too. I've seen a local C63 Black Series in matte black wrapped in SatinGuard (matte) for protection. It's still slightly different in terms of the matte sheen, but it's still matte. And now heavily protected. |

I ask because you may want to just hold off on re-painting since you aren't wrapping it... You're likely to get more nicks along the way, and might as well save the cost of repainting until you decide to sell (if ever). At least, that's what I would do. |

I remember watching a Drive Clean episode where he interviewed BMW NA M body expert who explained maintenance on frozen paint and the skill/process in repainting frozen paints. Good video to show why it costs more and why you want someone who knows what they're doing.

I didn't have to repaint my original bumper, but I had my Vorsteiner bumper from by previous M3 repainted Frozen Silver and put on my car last year before I took delivery. I had the full front of the car satin bra'd as well. Don't recall price as it was a package deal with my BBK being repainted as well.

the thing about frozen paint is that it cannot be blended or touched up, so every time you want to fix it, the whole things needs to be repainted. I talked to the authorized paint shop for several BMW dealerships as well as Tesla. He has a lot of experience with BMW frozen paint and said to repaint my quarter panel in frozen blue will cost me 3k. This is them charging the dealership, not me personally. Of course, take from it what you will, but to have it done properly, I assume this is the ballpark figure you'll be looking at
