I just want to add that it was my first time with this car on track, and although it was pushing to 100F outside, the engine never went past mark between 210 and 300, which is what, 255 ?
Outside of brakes letting me down, it behave great. I felt almost as quick as my GT350R |

He's a 6MT, probably has a little more headroom since the car isn't constantly in a narrow RPM range near redline like the DCT.

Did it last an entire session without pulling power to combat heat?

I don't know if it pulled power - I didn't notice any. Temps were not bad. Around 98C coolant (208F) and 114C (237F) oil according to the "secret menu" temp display.
What I did notice is that the car is much more loose than I've become used to with my M3! It is ready to oversteer. The PSS tires also didn't like me beating on them. |

Speaking of the gt350… my friend's gt350 just blew up during normal driving. Never been tracked, early oil intervals. Bad rod bearings.

They’re starting to be known for doing that. And the part that really sucks about them is that Shelby has to receive the motor out and ship a new one to your dealer, the dealers can’t touch that motor. So replacing it takes forever… my Ford dealer friends hate it

From what he described of the process- ford is using their dealer techs for tear down and diagnosis. He basically got a new motor though.

The number of failures is also a bit overblown, just like rod bearings on the e92 M3s sending rods through blocks. I have had conversations with a few techs at a few dealerships and most are not encountering oil consumption issues with the Gen II Voodoo motors. The replacement motors are warrantied for one year with unlimited miles and transfer to new owners in the event of a sale. If the motor is affected it seems to demonstrate significant oil consumption within a few thousand miles. That said, the engines will consume oil very similarly to many M motors, so it sort of comes with the territory of ownership of a high revving power plant. |

The GT350 engine failure rate is definitely above average. The motor was rushed through development, Ford doesn't even try to hide it -- they were really gung-ho about making the FPC V8. The issues are valvetrain or NVH, it seems, which checks out given the engine's design. Remember that it is an FPC motor but is a bit of a bastardization of one.
I even had a friend who went through 4 motors in 2 different cars along with two transmissions. Every time, it was either the valves or valve springs that broke after only a few thousand miles. Both cars got lemon'ed and he ended up with a Corvette.

And then there's the oil-consumption issue: Over 40,000 miles, we added 21.5 quarts of 5W-50. That's in addition to scheduled oil changes. It's the most we've ever added during a long-term test by a long shot. Ford released a supplement to the owner's manual stating that the engine might consume a quart every 500 miles under severe use. "Severe use" pretty accurately sums up our treatment of just about any car, but particularly one with an 8250-rpm redline. And we were lucky; internet forums are rife with horror stories of Shelbys consuming far more. With oil changes mandated every 7500 miles, having to add 21/5 quarts is not in the same universe as any M car ever built. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...lity-update-3/ Super cool car for sure, but let's not pretend its engine is normal, or in the vicinity of normal. I suppose we'll have to wait for a C8 Z06 for an american plat plane engine that functions like a normal car |

21.5 quarts over 40k? At that rate, you are pretty much doing a rolling oil change lol...

I had a 17 GT350R - cool car for sure but got tired of the oil issues. It drank it and then decided it spew it on the floor of my garage. Long story short sold it back to the Ford dealership I buy from for what I paid for it a year earlier (one of their managers wanted it). Enjoyed the car just not enough for the attention it required at that time. Some have had no issues with theirs too - just luck of the draw.
Yeah like that won't overheat in a couple of laps - still a Chevy

Chevy won't make that mistake again. The new Z06 motor is already running in the C8.R and has been solidly reliable.

Hopefully not - but the cooling systems in the C8.R and the street car will be different. Hopefully they get it right this time.
