Sean over at Stillwell's only has a Pre Chassis Number (#9792427) for me..

Does that mean it hasn't started production yet?

Not sure - I'm heading over to Stillwells now to pick up my wifes new X3 so I'll ask. The US guys on the forum seem to have this tracking business down to a fine art though from their posts.

Luke - my understanding of what I was told is that VIN numbers are not actually advised until immediately before production, but that the dealers get that info as soon as it is available. So if that's the case production of your car has probably not actually started yet.

But I was also told that final orders are only confirmed the month before production. That would be consistent I think with other posts from US and European forum members.

Thanks Alister, that's what I was afraid of.

Sometimes I wished I'd never found this website until I actually had my car - Reading about the American's & their cars..................... I'm growing more impatient by the day.

Congratulations on the new X3!!

Thanks - it's really for my wife but at least I get to enjoy some sort of new BMW while I wait. They are still being very coy on pricing for the E90 M3 though, still saying they are waiting for LCT legislation to pass. I suspect they're actually waiting for MB to announce the new pricing for the C63!

Just a quick update on my understanding where the LCT legislation is – The opposition has referred it off to a Senate committee who is to report back by the end of June. There seems to be some possibility that it will be delayed at least for a short time but who knows. There is also allegedly some serious activity by BMW, MB etc to have some common sense applied to this issue. Will post again if I hear anything more.

I read in todays Herald Sun (cars section) about the new '09 911 due here in September '08. They said the price of a new 911 could increase by as much as $10K.

To me that reads an M3 should be less than $10K more.... Wait & see I guess.

That’s about right – the LCT increases from 25% to 33% on the portion over $57K (odd). On mine the potential increase is $6512.

For those interested the LCT has been referred to a Senate committee who wont report back until late August – for those with delivery dates prior to that there is some hope that the increase wont apply.

Androo,

I was contacted last week & told the potential increase on mine is $7,000.00. Except for the stereo upgrade my DCT is fully loaded.

In todays Sun Herald (car section) there's a good read on the LCT..

Androo,

The $6512 was based on a DCT, 19 inch wheels and climate comfort windscreen (all $259 of it !). This whole thing is getting f&*%ing confusing and f&^@ing annoying to say the least. Advise from a prominent accounting firm is to watch this space so there is no clear idea where things are going. I have written to BMWA to get their position and they advise they are still deciding what to do re existing orders. Will advise if I hear more from BMWA.
