lol, that is strictly not true for certain paint colors like MR, SSII. The same as black/chrome wheel for these cars. Even for the rest, it gives the car a cheap mustang like car look. If the car came with black trim, i would mod it to chrome.
If you invented a machine that only picked the best grill trim color, it would calculate unbiasedly that black looks better than chrome.

That is absurd to the last exponent.

You realize BMW made black grills/gills for these cars too, right? So what exactly looks “so obvious” about them?

It's obvious it looks better because BMW wants to upsell them to you as an upgrade or on a higher tier competition model.

It looks better because it's a cleaner look, much less busy. Less is more. Matches the shadow line trim rather than adding an additional line that draws the eye. The chrome is just poor design. The chrome is "bling" that's not needed, it's gaudy.

So true!
On the E9x, I’m not sure there’s a color or setup where I think chrome looks better than gloss black. Sure sometimes it doesn’t look as bad as other times, but it’s never better than black IMO.
Yet on my E46, I kept chrome front/sides.

Same. Couldn't get rid of the chrome grills and gills fast enough on my E92, didn't bother me at all on my E46.

Also my OCD bugs the crap out of me every time I see a E93 with the chrome window molding.

yeah the e93 sometimes doesn't even read as an M car to me without shadowline trim.

It makes me want to take a sharpie and start coloring over it.

I snagged a few old pictures of my SG and it's hard to imagine still having the old chrome kidneys. They are horrifically out of place on any E9x. This anti-mod guy is just miserable to be this upset about blacked out kidney's. I bet he also is very much attached to his stock orange reflectors and stock rod bearings..

I’m the reverse here, lol. Reflectors bother(ed) me far more on the E46. I went Euro bumper with mine (above) but rocking orange still on the E90. No clue why!

recently got a clutch stop and it's a huge difference in clutching. other than the fact that the stock shifter has a hollow feel and longer throws than i'm used to, i tend to use the dead space of the pedal to my disadvantage. call it a placebo if you will, but i notice way smoother shifts

I’m certainly in the minority here, but love the chrome on my E93 M3, and also really like the black on the X3MC!

(Sometimes I’m in the mood for a little bling!)

*and IMO the orange reflectors were 1000% worse than the chrome!!

^ Great pair there! Chrome works better on an E93 than an E90/92, imo. Matches the personality of the car as well as the side window trim, and in your case the wheels. However, those wheels...!!

Good -

M performance steering wheel
Exhaust mod of your choice
ECU/DCT tune
Black Kidney grills
Larger shifter paddles
Paint matched reflectors
Coil overs
Solid rear bushings if we're going all out

meh mods (cool but not a priority)
rear diffusor
color matched fender badges
Window tint. I never really cared that much either way. I don't look at my car and think, hmmm window tint would really complete the look.

Nope -
X pipe mods or deleting cats. I get it, it adds 10-15 HP. I don't have the time to or energy to deal with inspection issues in NJ and re-weld the stock x pipe on to pass inspection. If you're in FL or a state that doesn't test emissions more power to you, but for me, nope.

Front lip. Looks cool but not worth scraping it up.

And ^^^^ chrome anything is ugly as shit.

I wrapped the chrome trim on my E93 a few weeks ago. I actually only did the driver side because i'm not sure if I like it 100% yet. It drives me crazy that its not finished but...........

Right now I have

Lux H8 180
Painted Reflectors
OEM Mod (thanks wfdeacon!!)
Future Classic 15/12 Spacers

Right now I am absolutely thrilled with all of them. Part of me wants to not do a single other mod.

The other part of me wants to get the car done up the way I always dreamed of the last several years before I even owned an M3

My wish list is
1) KW V3 or Ohlins coilovers but lately think B&G springs would be fine with my ZCP EDC
2) Eisenmann race with challenge sport x pipe but I'm thinking 5k for the exhaust setup is it really worth it over the OEM mod
3) BBS FI or RIA in 18" but the damn 359 wheels look so good
4) Eventuri plenum and I take but call me crazy I think that it's too much carbon in the engine bay
5) Challenge race trunk painted completely with no exposed carbon

I think the Eventuri plenum is more about engine noise than CF bling.
