On E9x's, all "launch control" does is dump the clutch at a certain RPM. It does not modulate the throttle for you in any meaningful way, so really it's "burnout control" on an autocross lot with, usually, very low grip, and street tires to boot. {snip}
How about a Pro-solo?

This is why I got a manual. I couldn't find anything that indicated that the e9x 'launch control' could be reliably used in ProSolo.
Mostly I was concerned about the 'warmup' requirements. Sounded like the car needed to be driven for X miles before use.
I also wasn't sure that I could get it setup during the 15sec shot clock.

I have no idea but as chono said if you are worried about the uncertainty, get a manual. I would not buy a dct for many reasons not least of which is the addition of a bunch more microchips deciding when and how much fun I can have. But seriously, even for prosolo, from what I understand just flooring it in first can be pretty repeatable with practice, and the 1-2 shift on the dct is about a tenth quicker than the fastest human shifting a manual. So even if you lose a tenth or two on the 60' you will get one back.

Still my advice for solo is to get a manual. Lighter, better control of what's going on, and most importantly, carjackerproof!

Haven't found that top secret alien setting but others have gotten close to finding it.

Yes -- I used the firmest suspension setting with sport power mode.

Figured would link this as he is the author but this may be worthwhile reading for those considering this.....http://www.solomatters.com/class_rep...eet_comparison

These findings certainly supports keeping the M3 in class and should calm some of the letter writers who were vigilant in trying to get the M3 out of FS pony car land.

I didn't realize so many considered the M3 to be an overdo in FS. The times certainly suggest that there will be a lot of course dependency, not to mention driver dependency on any given day. Seems to be a fairly spread out field.

For whatever it's worth, I got my clock cleaned last weekend in FS by a E46 330i, so there's that.

Granted... I was on 4 year old dry rotted pilot super sports that had about 1/32 of tread left, but that's besides the point.

Bob Clark is pretty quick and that is only pronounced at events at Miller Park where traction is limited by both the surface and your tires where putting power down may be nearly impossible. By far, my worst event of the year was at Miller Park. My guess is at any event where speed is a premium, and grip more plentiful, the E92 M3 would start to distance itself all the more from the 330i.

Hey guys, figured I'd post in this thread, I'm officially selling my MCS double remote Street-legal damper setup. Let me know if you're interested via pm. I haven't pulled them off the car yet.

Thank you! Tried out sport mode for edc during the weekend, it felt much better and the car seems to react more consistently. I also tried dsc off after not being able to make any improvements in the afternoon with euro mdm on. The car actually felt more stable and smoother and I went almost 2 seconds faster in the next lap. =)

Haha thanks! I'll have to look at mine again - I was 95% sure they were runflats but I'm not seeing that mentioned on Tire Rack for the OE's.

For some reason this myth perpetuates online. No M3 was ever delivered with runflats (hence the M-mobility kit), and Michelin does not even make PS2 ZP tires in the M3 size. Speaking of which, you'd know it if you were on runflats. We've used the PS2 ZP on our other E90 for many years now, and even though they are a lot better than the OEM Bridgestone RF tires, the ride is still very stiff (sport package plus 40 and 35 series runflat tires). Surprisingly, the PS2 ZP perform very well on track. We did a private rental of NCCAR a number of years ago and took a few cars, the 330i being one of them, and the PS2 ZP works well on track -- sharp, defined turn-in, great peak grip, etc. The place they would really lose out would be rough, stutter bumps as I think they'd tend to skate over surfaces like that.

GLWS btw. That's a great ready-to-go package for someone looking to jump into F-street! These are incredible cars and a lot of fun on course. I love the S65 torque curve on course as it allows you to really put the power down and stay hooked up where I didn't think it would be possible at times. What's going to replace the M3? I assume you're switching classes?

Regards,
Chuck

We don't want no stinking run flats. For anyone interested, John's car is beautiful and is simply awesome.

yes, locally & maybe a trip to Toledo.

Any input on which tires suit the car? Does either the Rival-S (245/275-18) or Re-71 (265/285-18) complement the stock set-up more than the other? Thinking the 'stones offer both width & reduced OD vs the Rivals tolerance for slip angle..

If you're going to run the Rival S, I would definitely use 275/35-18 all around.
