Wish I had seen this thread a couple of days ago. I just spent $200 for a replacement airbag for my non sport steering wheel.

For the Coby wheel...does it have to be an M3 wheel or will any E90 wheel work?

Pretty positive it has to be the same wheel, so E9X M3 to get the same wheel. I had to send pictures of the back of the wheel to confirm the paddle shifter placement was the same. The Coby wheel is phenomenal though. I highly recommend it.

I got to see one...was very impressed. I want to replace my OEM blue stripe wheel since the leather dye is wearing off...2nd wheel so far.

I just want an OEM leather wheel in alcantara.

For 6MT, it doesn't matter. For DCT, it's specific to the M3.

could you guys please explain to me why coby wheel is so preferred? I've been reading about royal steering wheels on e90post and seems like that is a much better vendor. coby doesn't seem to remove the original leather but simply wraps around it, thus making the wheel too fat, doesn't offer any leather options like perforated, and doesn't offer flat bottom conversion. im about to send my wheels to royal so just want to hear some opinions

To me, the thickness of the Coby vs OEM is way less than I expected. I find the feel/thickness to be much better than OEM. I was worried about this as well, but a total non-issue once you get it.. I honestly can't tell it's wrapped leather and probably won't ever get a M performance wheel as they are less thick than OEM leather, so I'm told. Quality is great overall. I don't really see any tangible benefit to the flat bottom personally. Only looks and given that the quality of Coby is top notch, I don't think a flat bottom is worth $500 more. I'm not familiar with the company you referenced so no comment on the difference.

Had this wheel custom made by Mashimarho. I went for a more stealth look with black alcantara and black leather stripe. I had the idea and dug the way it looked after seeing similar in a Mercedes GTR I believe it was. Have also not seen any other M with black stripe on the wheel!

I've had the wheel for about a year now and the work is quality, stitching is like oem and has held up fine. Sean is a legit guy, easy to work with and responsive to questions I had.

If ordering a dct wheel, be sure to work something out with him so that you get it made with an M3 wheel. They normally use the non-M wheels which have a different cutout in the back and leave an open notch when the M shift modules are installed. Not a huge deal as the modules fit just fine and the notches are not visible from the front but I personally wanted to get an M3 wheel back with proper cut-outs. I sourced my own wheel and sent it in as a core.

^ Looks really good and I love the stealth look as well. I have a similar idea in my head if I go custom. Any pics of it installed?

I'm toward the end of a bottle of aerospace 303 protectant. I bought due to great reviews & uv protection but the color & repugnant scent is just like armor all. It's not greasy like armor, dries better and the sheen goes away. Gonna try CarPro Perl next.
