Rattle Hunt: The Black Tub

Does anyone know how to remove this black plastic tub under the trunk liner? Under load, this tub likes to make a loud rattle and I suspect there is debris and small pebbles underneath it. I've removed all 10 nuts holding it down from the top but it feels like something else is holding onto it from underneath....or maybe I'm just weak. Any help would be much appreciated

I wonder if it is just some of those plastic clips holding it in place.

it is the 10 nuts plus body sealant that is a huge pain to get off and then you have to reseal it.

Are you sure its the plastic liner thats rattling and not something else under the car? Aftermarket exhaust for example?

I've already broken the seal around the edges, but it feels like there is something holding the tub down somewhere in its center. I just wanted to make sure this wasn't another bolt from underneath before I pull on it more. Any idea on what sealant to use after I'm done messing around?

There are several bolts from the bottom you need to get to as well. The rear muffler needs to come off.

The adhesive seal is just (or should just) be a foam gasket. The gasket can be purchased separately or if you buy a whole new tub, comes pre applied.

Here is the part

Thank you! Does the rear muffler need to come off because it is an obstruction to the bolts from underneath? If that's the only reason I may not have to as I have smaller aftermarket ones that may allow me to get to the bolts without removal.

The only way to know is to get the rear end up and take a look. I have the MPE and I still had to remove it. If you have single cans it might be doable. There are some bolts in the middle and some bolts on both ends right above the muffler.

The bolts are threaded into brass inserts and the inserts are welded into the plastic tub so don't over torque them

I suspected it was that, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for confirming!
