Changed the differential fluid just now.
71,140 miles overall, 7 Track Days.

Bought 1.5L but only used about 1.3L.

Had to take my 9/16" hex socket to the belt sander to make it 14mm, because after purchasing that gear oil there wasn't any money left over to buy a 14mm anything!

The old stuff didn't look bad though, smelled the same as the new stuff, probably didn't need to change it.

Turned DSC off after constant poking from my buddy.
Result... DSC is stupid, the car is 1000x better.

Just on the street. Noticed before that even on a yield exit, DSC allows nothing, immediate throttle cut in for example 40 to 80kph road yield. Now can at least take a corner without massive intervention to the point that it was frustrating and not fun.

Can now understand why people enjoy euro MDM so much. (car doesn't have Mdrive)

The car is a lot more composed than I expected.

Awesome yes it's a super fun and predictable platform.

Without MDM as an option, the car is bastardized with DSC on full time. Be careful in the rain though.

Still have a lot to learn, hoping for HPDE next year. Now it feels like I can learn. Definitely bastardized, blows my mind how much it won't allow.

Debating getting the MDM retrofit, even have the required parts, not sure if it's needed anymore.

Absolutely, rain changes everything.

A little late to the game.. This is usually one of the first things I do to my bmws because it makes the front end much more aggressive but it took me about 4.5 years of ownership to pull the trigger.. so happy with the result. Also changing the gills and hood vents to gloss black.. it's the small things that really add up to a car that's already extremely handsome out of the box. I went with bmw m performance blackout grille instead of the black chrome. Matches my shadow line trim around my windows very well!

I had hit up that Summit Point lead follow event during the week and I drove back during the night through a bit of rain. So today I washed and did a small quick wax job on the M3 before taking it out for a drive.

My mindset is it takes care of me and doesn't fail on the track so I take care of it when I come back and get it back to as close to pristine as I can.

Been raining non stop for 3 days, so decided it was a good day for a polish and detail.

Next time go Castrol Syntrax 75w140, OEM fluid but I believe a tad less FM, half price or less. My fluid came out looking new, no smell either. To my surprice still made a quite noticeable difference, actually less grining than the OEM I had, and a small diff whine around 2.5k rpm went away.

Oh it was designed to be a first ever track experience for the other 3 cars. I did it so I could experience the track for dirt cheap.

So to answer your question. Due to the cars in front of me, mainly the instructor Miata wanting to keep the speeds low for the newbie drivers.

You are right, I don't think my shift lights came on the whole time I was at the track that day. Still a fun experience. Like imagine a track day where the risk to your car is even lower. Almost like street driving, but speeding, but not worrying about red/blue lights behind you.
Ah, makes sense now. Thanks for the clarification!

I would like to run on the track some day, but I have the vert. But then again, maybe taking the vert to a track , where the speeds are lower, like you did would be okay.
I took my e93 to the track for a high performance driving event in June. Totally doable and I probably was more nimble than 40% of the cars there. But most tracks require hardtop up if you don't have a roll cage. I thought the car was a little top heavy on the track that way but PIR in Portland has a couple wicked corners. When I drive canyons top down, I'd wager the maneuverability rivals the coupe. (Lowers the center of gravity)

Is this the issue where once locked, the door won't open from inside (using the inside handle)? Happens to both rear doors, whenever I drive someone in the backseat, I have to act as their chauffeur to let them out. Would love to know if this solves that problem!

My issue specifically was about 3-4 months of chatter whenever I unlocked and opened the driver's door. Eventually, central locking would not unlock or lock the drivers door. All other doors open/lock/unlock with remote and central locking except Driver's.

Unlike your situation, pulling the driver's door handle unlocks/opens the car.

Are you sure that the child safety lock isn't activated? Check

I had the stock rod bearings and motor mounts replaced at my Indy last week. Car is at 136k kms and replacement BE Bearings and ARP bolts installed.

The OE bearings had a fair but of wear. The new motor mounts increase some vibration when idling.

The Indy recommended Motul 300V and the engine feels completely different now. The oil is likely overkill for my application, but the engine runs silky smooth compared to LM 10W60.

Which weight 300V did your Indy recommend?

It's running 15W50.

There are a number of prior discussions on this oil, which I just found after a Google search:
