Just had it replaced about a month ago. Just after I hit 50k miles. Had an indy shop do the repair since BMW didn't want any part of it.

Seems like it happens a lot more in hotter climates.

Change done, A/C is back and great.

As long as its under warranty its not a big deal. Just downtime in the shop.

Mine is out of warranty and my AC is mediocre. I can't tell if it's a problem or just a poor design?

I just hit 58k miles got a diagnosis and told it's evaporator leaking, and needs to be replaced. This is pathetic bmw should do a recall this ia ridiculous how many M3 owners are experiencing the same problem, just like the N54 engine with the HPFP recall. I say we get a class action lawsuit going for this as well. I mean these are M3's we're talking about here, not a Kia Rio. I vote for class action lawsuit settlement, or I'll pay an attorney and sue BMWNA to foot the bill. Who agrees? These are 70k plus cars

2 weeks past warranty

So...2 weeks out of warranty and A/C doesn't blow as cold. Went to the dealer --- full cost to replace the evaporator. I complained and got $1000 off courtesy of BMW NA.

Still, $2K to replace the original with newer version of same leads me to think that this could happen again in a few years. Does anyone know if BMW fixed the root cause of the evaporator to leak?

Luckily it's cooled off here in Phoenix so I can take my time to get this figured out.

Confirmed the leak yesterday - getting it replaced at the end of the month, caught it just at the end of my factory warranty (thank goodness).

Seems like those who've had it replaced have been happy with the results, but I'm also interested to know if the root cause has been determined and resolved by BMW.

Hoping this is the last major repair for a good long time!

If anyone needs an evap and is out of warranty, I have an OEM one still in the box, $100 shipped (cheaper than dealer charging $400+). PM me

UPDATE: After reading more about the issue on the forums, decided to contact a respected indy shop nearby. He fully charged the system and told me to keep an eye on it. He also replaced the shreader valves. That was a month ago and the A/C still blows colder than I ever remember.
