update to my BK seat mounts

I ended up fabricating my own low profile sub-strap bar.
I now have my seat sitting all the way down to the ledge.

Bar is 2" x .25" 304 SS; fasteners are all 10.9
All holes are through BK mounts only, the OE rails are untouched.

Pic also shows the PnP wiring harness that I made up.
OE seats and wiring are 100% untouched.

Autocoutur have found away to mount the BK sub strap bar it what looks like a perfect way.

They drilled the mounting hole to enlarge it enough for the sub strap bolt and is using the bolt for both, the bracket mounting point and the holding the bar in place. Because it sits before the seat sink to the lowest point, it works.

Looks like it will work nicely.

I considered that approach as well, the thing that held me back was drilling out the hole on the OE rail would make it hard to go back to stock.
The OE seat bolt head is indexed in place so the the seat will raise & lower without binding.

Anybody having a problem with airbag lights? I made the mistake of removing OE seat without disconnecting the battery. I installed the BK mount with a recaro PP (drivers side only) and plugged the OE seat belt receiver plugged into the harness plug coming out of the floor. When i turned on the ignition I got the airbag warning on the cluster and have codes 93AC MRS:seat airbag left, and 93AE MRS: active head restraint. I tried to clear with a foxwell nt510 but no success. Keep in mind I am using a manual OEM slider and my car is equipped with power seats. Not sure if that would cause a problem.
Also, if anybody is interested I have a 2 R9281 mounts for sale, both new, only removed from the packaging to verify fit, with all hardware. I also have an new OEM e30 window switch.

You can't just clear the codes, you will have to code them out. If you know how to code, here's a thread on the specifics of what to code out.

https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1332854

Otherwise you can pay somebody to code it out for you, but it's a bit expensive for what it is imo.

Has anyone weighed the total BK mount + motor/E30 switch assembly compared to the typical floor mount + brackets that the typical race seat setups use? I swear I saw some numbers about this earlier but I can't find them now... :/

SYT_Shadow If you can, would you post more photos of the seat rail setup you have in the E90 please? Trying to work out how this will sit in my RHD E90 in terms of using the OEM seatbelt. I'll PM you too.

hello

I can't, my E90's engine blew and the car has been sitting for the past year at the mechanic's shop. I should have access to it in the next few weeks

I suggest you call BK's main number and ask to talk with their technical guy, Ian. He will be able to answer, he is very knowledgeable

I weighed the whole assembly minus the sub-strap bar (which, according to BK's site is 2lbs ) and it was 14lbs. So with the sub-strap bar and sub-strap, maybe 16.5 lbs?

I posted a couple of pics showing what I did for my OEM 3 points in my E90. I used the R-9289 Lapbelt mount to mount the OEM shoulder harness to the seat:

Anyone with their direct to floor mounts not sitting completely centered? I have the brackets for 410mm+ and I am definitely more to the left of center wheel when seated. Just curious if it's just me or if this is normal...??

Same issue here.

macdude357 and SYT_Shadow, do you find the OEM slider mounts have you more central to the steering wheel than the direct to floor mounts?

I went from direct to floor to OEM slider version and it's still not centered. Maybe a very slight bit more centered, but hard to tell personally. It doesn't take long before you don't notice anymore.

If you're running seats that are in the middle of the side range (which is probably most seats?), you could order a small and a large (9280 and 9281), and run a large inner on both seats and a small outer on both seats. That would push it inboard ~3/4" and add no cost (assuming you're also doing a passenger seat). I've installed a couple this way-- exactly centers it.

The default is off center outwards because that's the only position in which larger seats fit in the car.

I believe my car has what Obioban mentions, two differently sized brackets so it is completely centered.

I just bought an F80 CS and will be installing the BK seat mounts and harness bar again. This is the best stuff there is, I'm so happy they exist!

edit: when I buy stuff from BK I make sure to call them to figure out exactly what to order. Their technical guy is super helpful and takes all the guesswork out of it.

I'm planning on getting started on this upgrade soon. Picked up a couple of seat base assemblies from a junkyard so I can keep my stock seats intact.

My seats are centered as well but in my case the brackets are made for my specific seat (Cobra Nogaro) so that would kind of be expected.
