Transmission has been sounding like it had straight cut gears for years now.

Input shaft had play, seal was done and bearings failed.

Prob from neglecting fluid flushes as much as I should have early in the track days.

Just did my second track day this past weekend. I kept DSC on the whole day. Just focused on my lines and changed how I approached each corner so DSC won’t intervene on exit. Brought my average time of 2:12 down to 2:08, within the average time for my group. Also hit my personal best of 2:06 and change. Still have lots to work on.

For reference, group A cars hit average of 1:45. Group B is around 2:00 +/-. So my personal best of 2:06 is not fast by any means.

the biggest mod you can do is to the one in the driver's seat


i plan on taking it pretty easy this saturday at Autoclub Speedway
i haven't been to any track in over 2 years and this will be the first time in my M3
i had a handful of track days with my f30 328i before... very different vehicle
so even though i've been to speedway before, i'll treat it like my very first time

I've only seen 1:47s at best for new GT3RS.

I know, right!! That's really impressive. Also I don't think I have the balls to attack turn 7 the way he did.

Here is what not to do at turn 1, as this person found out this weekend. Very glad he was able to catch the slide and save it! impressive as well!

Haha yea that looked fun. Most people recommend downshifting after T1 for that reason.

I have done 3 or 4 Track Night in America events.

Here is where the horror stories live. In the intermediate level.

Novice is filled with either:
A. people who are scared shitless of being on the track for their first time and either give everyone a point by or they start at the back and you lap them in a 20 min session
B. a few people like myself who are smart enough to know that Intermediate is the most dangerous level filled with people who "think" they can drive better than they can, so you decide to run Novice to stay away from that danger

My first track night event I attended because lets face it its $150 for 3x 20 min sessions, cant beat that. I personally drive at experienced/intermediate level. I did the first event with TNiA at Intermediate level, never again.

Now, I just do Novice and just lap everyone. Sometimes I get stuck behind the people with egos that dont want to give point bys, but overall its way safer to run with less experienced people. I realize that is ass backwards from driving on the road, but the guy who is scared to wreck his baby in Novice is more safe than the race hero in intermediate who almost hits everyone.

Summary - I have 10+ track days under my belt, I still run Novice at TNiA (only their events others I do Inter), because people think they can drive better than they can.

Fuck that. I got stuck in novice for a session, and it was terrible. And one prick with a new crapmaro refused to give me a point for several laps. I thought Int drivers were significantly more courteous, in fact I had zero issues running in int.

FWIW I did one TNIA in advanced and it was fine but I have heard too many stories and there are so many other groups to run with that I have decided to stay away from them for now.

Picked up some great items at a craft store that is making this pretty easy for as tedious as it seems. Sharp scissors and clear contact mat make easy stencils.
