Haha no idea, just messing with him... Don't even know what sizes A7's come in, I try to avoid tempting myself with purple crack by looking at them online.

I thought I'd update this thread with a video from VIR. Stock engine, @ 3235lbs. Not many changes from last year. Electro-hydraulic PS pump and rear wing.

Purchased a sequential and ECU but I didn't have a chance to get them installed and tuned yet.

It is currently 4.10 Diffsonline Race carrier. SECRET ramps

Currently manual trans. With Drenth DG500 install, I will keep the same diff ratio, which theoretically should give the following.

1st gear 2.538 61 mph
2nd gear 1.875 82 mph
3th gear 1.500 103 mph
4th gear 1.250 123 mph
5th gear 1.083 142 mph
6th gear 0.955 161 mph

Fellas,

Question for you all… I’m looking into BBKs but I have sort of a budget to adhere too.. trying to be around 5k for total kit. I can do this two ways… Stoptech kit or a Retrofit brembo kit with ZL1 calipers and rotors from FCP.

ONLY reason I’m not 100% sold on the ST… knockback.

I had st60/st40 on my e46 and I noticed knockback at LimeRock park and NYST a lot it’s not really a comforting feeling lol. Yes, you learn to drive around it but I’m not crazy about it.

Any thoughts?

AP 9668 & OEM rear with blank rotors and slightly more aggressive pads.

I will second that a front BBK is all that is needed on this car. Rears would be nice but it’s really not necessary. I run the ZL1 calipers on F80 rotors. AP’s would be a better option but my setup works great and was about $2500

I would do this but I like the symmetry of a BBK all around. It would drive me nuts only having them upfront.

How do you’re the ZL1 calipers? That’s the same set up I thought about with the f8x rotors. I do 3/4 track days a year max. So I don’t think an AP kit is really necessary unless I go with the kit From Paragon for $3k

Don’t do a garbage retrofit. A serious front kit is better than any front and rear retrofit.

+1. They generally pay no attention to brake bias with these ghetto kits.

I've been down the 'economical' BBK route before. Just don't bother.

Find a used AP kit or just spring for a new front and run OEM rears with track pads and brass caliper bushings. It will be way cheaper than dealing with issues and eating the cost of a sub standard kit like ST or any retrofit.

AP or Bimmerworld Alcon kit up front and stock rear brakes would be your best option.

I can help out with both if you shoot me a DM (save you a good bit under list price)

I run the ST60/40 Trophy kit but run knockback springs and never have any issues. I still prefer the AP or BW kits though.

Good morning guys (and gal)! I haven’t even super active lately, but I’ve been focusing on junior driver development. She’s almost ten months and loves to “drive.”

I also have the ST60/40 with 6lb springs and zero knockback, but I wouldn't drive on the street regularly. The 6lb springs are strong enough to drag the pads a little. I had tons of knockback previously.

I have a set of rebuilt stoptechs with Knockback springs installed if anyone is interested.

I just went to AP 9668's, they don't feel WAYY better than the stoptechs, so the knockback springs do help

AP 9668 or ALCON CR6420, dont need a rear BBK, just match the pad with the front and you're golden... when budget allows you an just do a F8XM rear retrofit and run a 2 piece rotor and be fine.

that's what i did with my rear brakes, but mainly for looks lol.

I knew I’d get flamed for running this kit. I always do. Neither of the flamers have run my setup so they don’t have any experience with the results.

As I said, I do think the AP kit would be better.

I am a very aggressive brake-er on track and normally run Laguna which is known to be hard on brakes. I have no issue running there. I can run 20 minute sessions, I can run 45 minutes sessions. No fade.

Lots of bench-racing commenters that want to argue bias technicality, heat soak, etc. hate on my brake setup, but it works and it was $2k. Others coming from C63 BS, 991.2 Carrera GTS, G82 M4 and have driven my car have all said my brakes are insane.

There are better systems out there at higher costs and are also closer to a motorsports product. If I tracked more than twice a year or was doing longer sessions, I’d dump more money into aftermarket because I’d be faster and probably make use of more advanced parts. There’s a small crowd of people that make use of the capability of the parts they bolt on. Most are in this thread. Many still, are like me: slow. Many of the slow guys spend a lot of money making their car look and capable of being fast, but not in their hands.

AP Racing > better than the rest, plain and simple. But that doesn’t mean the rest are junk. Also, Randy set fast times on stock brakes, so….

I’ve always told people spend as much money on the best products as you are comfortable spending without sacrificing safety. The closer you get to real race car stuff, the more fun you will have because after all, for the guys doing occasional track days we are really just out there pretending to be race car drivers.

YMMV.
