First sign of DCT issue?

Hi all,

I was pulling from a stop pretty aggressively in S4 mode and shifted into 2nd at around 6k rpm, all went well. From 2nd to 3rd I was on the throttle heavily and shifted at around 7k rpm. I felt and heard a clunk far worse than the typical shift coming from underneath and there was quite a bit of lag prior to the shift completing. Perhaps 2-3 seconds before it engaged 3rd with a thud. I took it easy for the rest of my drive and haven't had the issue again. But I am a bit concerned as this could be the first sign of an issue. has anyone run in to this? I'd like to be as proactive as possible at correcting it.

I also have the Dinan DCT tune if that matters.

That's how it felt for me on track when I had DCT issues. Replaced with Slon Workshop baffled DCT bottom pan and all is good now. Issue was transmission oil sloshing around and eventually limp mode for loss of oil pressure. (error codes reflected it)

Your situation is on street, so it's different. Perhaps your DCT oil is low? May be similar loss of pressure.

I certainly hope its simply low DCT oil. I will have to get it checked asap. Thanks for the response!

Intersecting.. how many miles OP? I just clocked 100K and have had some oddities start as well. guess I need to schedule a DCT oil change also. Is the labor pretty intense for this? Any benchmark cost estimates?

Only at 58k miles on mine. I'm not too sure on cost for this, I'll have to do some research.

If you do it, get the Slon DCT bottom pan. The stock one will fail again.

The pans start leaking on the duct eventually. It will doa bunch of weird things when low on oil. When I discovered my leak and fixed it I only drained about 8 quarts of oil out. The DCT takes about 14.

I get the occassional clunk or weird shift but I don't worry about it. Not unless it happens again.

I found out my DCT was 2 qts low on oil since I've owned the car... topped it off (until I get it fixed) and all of my issues are gone. Even cold start driving is silky smooth.... all of the cold jerking and occasional bangs/jerks are gone. Check your fluids if yours is jerky, because some stickied thread that said it was normal made me not realize I was really close to ruining my DCT.
