I like the concept and I could see myself buying into this. I love the z4 but the chassis is too muted, and I love the brz but its a bit too econo box.

The BRZ/FRS is not bad, but let's face it - it's a kid's car. It's priced for early 20s, branded for early 20s and lacks real power. However, it does handle well. It would be nice to see a company like BMW take some of that technology and make a real adult car out of it.

The frs is a marketing mess. Toyota spent more money selling it than they ever did building any part of it and people who have never driven real "drivers cars" bought into it.

If you want a supra, buy one. Don't wait until 2017 to be disappointed. If you want a BMW sports car, there's tons to choose from. /rant

With all due respect, parts of that article makes no sense at all. So they are saying that BMW would build a brand new V6 Hybrid? For what purpose? We all know that there is a new inline 6 coming eventually, and the hybrid tech is being developed across the family. Why have a V6 and an I6?

I dont know if anyone else feels this way but when I hear Supra and hybrid in the same sentence I feel confused and angry inside.

Also, I don't know if others are thinking this and Im the only one saying it but why the hell is BMW teaming up with Toyota? Toyota can only cheapen the BMW brand...

Like my 2 year old daughter says: "Ohhhhh noooooooooo!!!"

I really wonder what kind of metal frame they will use. Japanese cars are so soft I feel like a soft shell crab on the road. Ask me how I know...

Really? ok where do I start? This is way off topic but since you asked.

Was driving a rental Passat in Asia during a business trip and... some idiot rear ended me with his Mazda tribute at a red light. The Mazda had the front all destroyed and was spilling coolant all over the place having the radiator torn. My Passat? I looked for a long time before I found a scratch on the bumper. I returned the rental and nobody noticed anything. The idiot drove away to avoid any more trouble after being very surprised that my car had nothing.
When driving around in Paris, I saw a crash between a Renault Clio and a Nissan Micra. The clio rear ended the Micra. The Clio seemed ok, had some normal front end damage but only to the point of the front bumper. The Micra? Lost its roof! The A pillars had given in the roof had collapsed.
I once had one of my previous cars also crashed into while it was parked on the street. When I took it to the shop, only a few shops can handle pulling a european car frame. Why? the shop guy tells me they are much stiffer and require specific equipment not every shop has. Japanese frames are much softer and easier to work with. Apparently a known fact in the industry. There is a reason why they are lightweight and cheap...

I can go on and on with crashes I have witnessed or involving friends where a european car made mashed potatos out of a japanese one. I am never buying another that's for sure.

Back to the topic. Partnering with Toyota for anything but the hybrid technology will certainly degrade BMW's image. Is BMW the next Lexus?

At first when rumors first appeared I thought it would be a horrible idea.

After buying a BRZ to accompany my M3 I this is a fantastic idea...

Yes, and throw in a CVT transmission that is on most Toyota cars would make this Toyobimmer really awesome.

I thought Toyota was getting around when I saw the 86, but then I saw the ALL NEW Corolla and RAV4, which I would not consider buying even 10 years ago.

first thing first, the BRZ is an awesome driver's car because of its low COG, i.e., mainly from the contribution of Subie's flat 4.
strictly speaking of COG, No engine configuration beats boxer engines. Boxer > Inline > V configuration.

Like I said before, I hope this BMW & Toyota marriage isn't gonna bring us a Prius-W.

Don't be naive.... Only thing subaru provided was the engine..

Everyone is saying subaru built the chassis , I don't think that's true.

Toyota's don't get too much love but lately THEY CAN BUILD CARS, look at the LFA and new GS F sport....

Much to the perception of Mercedes gettin bashed here but thier recent cars are more drivers cars than BMW's, some people just can't comprehend that , a lot of bimmers are soft now, but since it's a BMW forum they can do wrong lol
