my Evo in 2006 had under 2k worth of parts making just under 400 hp and ran 12.2 @ 112 mph.

You can't compare modding a cheap turbo car to the ridiculously overpriced (i.e. 2k mufflers) BMW M cars
The thing is that you don't need any mods to trap 112mph with the M3 so it's hard to compare!
But seriously, I don't know what mods you had for 2k but with my X 2k only buy me a Catback/intake/tune(with wide band) so it's more like 300whp, not 400!

If you figure about 20% driveline loss, it puts me at about 476 at the crank.

I haven't priced M3 parts so I'm unsure what it costs you guys to add about 150 hp.

What is needed on the M3 to get that?

A lot. S/c, exhaust, x-pipe. $8k-$10k.

If I'm throwing on a s/c, an x-pipe w/hfcs is going on as well. At that point, you might as well add the rear exhaust section.

Okay. OP, I've revised my amount to $7k-$8k for that kind of power increase.

I wouldn't go GS-R unless it was B20BVTEC myself. Preferably the B16A-series head instead of the B18C1 head, as well. Just sayin'....

My IX made 330whp with under $700, the only real part was the downpipe. Custom tuned. I could run with e9x M3s under 110mph but after that I get freight trained lawl

I like the EVOs performance and think they are cool for what they are blah blah. Maybe I live in some rich area and I didn't know it but its a very common car for that age group.

I myself feel I have gotten too old for the 3 series so I'll be moving up to Godzilla.
I owned a h22 prelude instead of s2000 so to be honest I actually would rather buy s2000 at the moment vs BRZ/FRS... maybe it is something to look into

As for the EVO, I came from STi, and on the rare occasion that I miss it I tell myself the next logical step is to work hard and get into a Carrera, preferably with an "S" ...

I don't spend much time on that forum. Usually on EvolutionX.

Well let me correct that for you, preferably with a GT3 and an RS.

Haha... Im 25 and just got a 2011 335i instead of the m3 (couldnt afford monthly haha) but anyway. I too come from sti's and evo's, and ive loved them both. But being in a bmw... In general is a much better feeling. Sure it may not be as fast, or atleast easier to make it fast, the bmw just feels alot more solid and... Luxurious.

Not to mention the unwanted attention from the police...

Like everyone else said, buy it for a second or a third car!

Funny people always mention attention from the police with the Evo. Maybe it's an age or location thing. I'm 43 and live in Aliso. I got pulled over once in the almost two years owning the Evo at 1am for no plates.

It's loud, it low, the windows are too dark, big wing, no cat, no front plate. No troubles. Either I'm lucky or the "unwanted attention" might have been deserved? Lol
