GIAC ECU Flash.... Check :)

Just got back from EAS and did the GIAC flash. I must say, Tom and Steve are great guys who really know how to satisfy a customer. They literally explained each and every step of the process and made me feel really comfortable w/ my decision to go w/ the GIAC program. Not to mention the E92 M3 project they got going on, is INSANE!

Now back on topic...

The software made me feel like I got a complete new car. The throttle response is noticeably enhanced. Not sure if it is my happiness head buzz, but I believe I can actually feel the acceleration a lot more now. I say this because I've been longing for the "push you into your seat" feeling that the FI engine of the 335i gave me, and I have it now.

So my mod/crack crave is once again suppressed. Till next time... back to the office table to make some more mula... peace in the middle east!

GIAC does not tamper with the emission settings in the ECU, keeping them intact and 100% stock.

None. We also perform a full diagnostic scan before and after the flash with an autologic diagnostic computer to verify a clean bill of health before releasing.

Please let me know if you experience any "noise" after the RE pully install.

After I did mine, I get an occassional lower rpm "growl" (like low fluid in the PS pump) sound.

Just curious... TIA

It IS illegal, both federal and state law (CA at least) prohibit tampering with any emission control devices....this would include the ECU. If you want to get super techincal, even the tune itself would be considered an issue in California UNLESS there is an EO number associated with it. Problem is, you modify the spark timing, fuel supply, etc, you will effect emissions......anything that can potentially alter emissions needs to be "ok'ed" first via CARB with an EO number. Some things are excluded, such as a drop-in air filter....but if you start replacing parts of the intake tract, you are not expemted. I could go on for days....lol

IMHO, EAS is playing it pretty safe. Other companies are taking a chance. However, enforcement in many states is given to the feds. They have LITTLE/NO time to investigate such things. So peeps in Florida, for example, probably don't have the same "concerns" as those in Cali.

Tom is wise to not go there. CA is pretty (if not the most) aggressive on Environmental Enforcement......many aftermarket parts have to be approved via CARB before sale/use in CA. Of course, there are exclusions, etc., but I think Tom is wise in his approach.
