Couple things, I come from the Vette world over 5 years and I had a 700hp highly modified one when I left........so first off if you buy the coupe in the Vette world you are buying the bottom of the barrel model and the Z06 guys and the ZR1 guys look down on you. Over time you will wonder why you bought a base model. Then you will do two things, waste tons of money modifying it, or sell it and buy a Z06 or ZR1. The M3 I consider the top of the line in our world....so your moving from the top to the bottom....

Next, the pricing on the 2013 GT500 Mustang w/662 Hp was supposed to be 58k to 62K ...good luck with that...couldnt find one for that price anywhere. The dealers all priced em up ....up ... and away! Approximately 80k even if you ordered them.....total B.S.
Unsure if this will happen regarding the Vettes ...but if you make the mistake and pay a high premium and in a couple years the Z06 comes out and you paid only 7k less ....you will be kicking yourself.....

By the way the manual in the Vette is the way to go...as far as I know they have not upgraded their technology to a DCT. If so than its just a suck ass grandpa automatic...not a DCT. Big difference IMOP between a DCT and automatic your wife can drive....lol... If this is the case buying an automatic, base model....you will probably regret it. First two things people in the Vette world will ask you: Is it a Z06? Is it a manual? If you answer no to both then your car is bottom of the barrel ....low man....picked last...

Exactly agreed ^^^

New Vette will have 450 HP....thats only 20 more than when they bumped it up in 2008 to 430 HP w/ the dual stage butterfly exhaust (a low priced exhaust upgrade) most were driving around w/ 436 hp.......the weight will be the same. So dont expect a significant performance upgrade over the old base model w/only 16hp more.....An older Z06 however, loaded can be bought low miles, for less and get you 505 HP...and all the suspension, and drive train upgrades etc....and not have that gastly comaro looking ass.

Maybe the people you know have manuals and "real enthusiasts" have manuals....but can't argue with the numbers.

Here is the press release on GM testing for the car... VIR times for the BASE C7 are comparable to the C6 Z06. Not bad for a car that starts at $52K!!

Quote:
DETROIT – Chevrolet released official performance estimates today for the 2014 Corvette Stingray, the most capable standard Corvette ever. Equipped with the available Z51 Performance Package, the new Stingray is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, braking from 60 to 0 in 107 feet, and sustaining 1.03 g in cornering.

Cumulatively, the acceleration, cornering and braking capability of the Corvette Stingray enabled it to lap the Virginia International Raceway’s (VIR) 4.2-mile “Grand Course” in 2:51.78.

“For the new Stingray, we set out to elevate every aspect of the Corvette’s performance,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer. “Considered alone, the acceleration, braking and cornering performance of the Corvette Stingray is truly impressive. More significant is how well they work together, resulting in a lap time at VIR that places the new Stingray in the upper echelon of all sports cars.”

2014 Corvette Stingray Z51

Acceleration from 0-60 MPH
3.8 seconds

¼ mile acceleration

12 seconds @ 119 mph

Braking distance from 60 to 0 MPH

107 feet

Maximum lateral acceleration

1.03 G

VIR ‘Grand Course’ Lap

2:51.78

The lap around VIR was conducted in Stingray equipped with the available Z51 Performance Package and Magnetic Ride Control. The vehicle that conducted the lap was modified only with safety features like a racing seat and harness, and fire extinguisher system.

“The new Stingray constantly communicates feedback to the driver, which makes you feel incredibly confident behind the wheel,” said Jim Mero, Corvette vehicle dynamics engineer. “That confidence encourages you to attack each corner because the Stingray drives so well: the tire grip is incredible; the steering response is some of the best I’ve ever experienced; the Magnetic Ride dampers allow little body roll through the corner, while still soaking up the rumble strips when you clip the apex,” he said. “It’s just addictive on the track.”

The 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe goes on sale in the third quarter of 2013 for a suggested starting retail price of $51,995, excluding tax, title, and license fees. The $2,800 Z51 Performance Package includes an electronic limited-slip differential; dry-sump oiling system; integral brake, differential and transmission cooling; as well as a unique aero package that further improves high-speed stability. Magnetic Ride Control with Performance Traction Management is a $1,795 option. A Corvette Stingray equipped like the test car used at VIR would cost $56,590.

this is a lot of performance for the money.... I am seriously considering this car and will drive it. I will also drive the M4 and decide then what I replace my 335 with. I think they have done a terrific job with redesigning this car, lets see how it drives.... especially in the wet and areas that vettes typically don't stand up to the Germans.

I was beside a C6 vette one morning and I it was a bit damp. I stood on the gas, trac light came on solid, he hit the gas and went sideways all over the place then put it in the ditch.... that just can't happen in my next car, doesn't happen in mine now. Has to be safe.

I may get one of these.

Dunno how I feel...it's still a GM, inquired at a dealership, the guys were asshats. I'd definitely stay away from there. And if they try marking it up like the people at the Ford dealership who wanted 50k for a used GT500, fuck no.

EDIT: possibilities are either finding last allocation for E92, getting E92 off the lot, finding used E90/2, getting new C7, or splurging on a new F80 M3.

That's called driver error. I had no problem doing trackdays in the wet in my Corvette. Neither do the thousands of other Corvette drivers at tracks around the US every weekend. They are fairly predictable in the rain on good tires.

He obviously didn't have his traction control on as its been in Corvettes since the early 90's. Works just like BMWs.

Now snow is a different story...

Here is where the C7 standard car fits in lap times at VIR. I can only imagine what the Z06 version of the C7 will do. Like the Corvette or not, it is very hard to argue with its value.

Not sure if serious....

How about not street racing from a dig when it's wet with traction off?

Of all the reasons I've heard not to get a vette, that's the worst.

It is the driver and not the car. The Corvette has very advanced performance traction management for the track and all of the driver nannies. When on, it would have behaved like any other car in the wet. Off, in the wet, with a ton of torque and you better know what the hell you are doing.

I thought about the C7 as my next car but have finally decided my ultimate dream is a 991 GT3 and that's what I'm going to save up for and get in a few years.

Well, as much as I love the C7, the new GT3 is simply stellar and really in a different league than most other cars

Great stats. I have a deposit on this car, can't wait for journalists to get ahold of it so I can seal the deal

Yea at 2.5 times the price, different league is an understatement.

I know. I have the same one. Probably could have swung a 997 gt3 this time around but thought the e46 made more sense.

Seems a lot of people wreck Vettes. They handle well but without nannies they are very raw.
