No regrets on this one for me. I take two kids to school with two car seats in the back. Its not super roomy but you can do it. You want faster due to the added weight of the top? Add a supercharger and you'll be good. The car is great top down and I drive that way most of the year. I dont care if its not as stiff as the e92 and I think the E90 is just not the spirit of the two door sports car that I look for.

But I always wanted a vert so it makes sense to me to make it work.

It really all depends... did the wife buy it with her money or yours? If the former, enjoy it, don't ever let her on that you dislike it one bit. If the latter, do what you so choose.

Of course I love it! Car is amazing specially when driving it with the top down.

Me being 6 feet tall, I just thought and felt that the space in the back seats wasn't enough for the kids. And yes, she used her own money.

So I always wanted an M3 and wife was nice enough to surprise me last month and bought me a E93 2011 M3. The fact that she herself went out of her way to get it was just amazing and I love it. The car is everything I always wanted, but we have two little ones (a 3 and a 5 year old) and I think I might of had been happier if we had a little more room for when they're hanging out with me specially when I drop off and pickup my 5 year old from school.

I now wish we had waited and looked around a bit longer for an E90 M3 instead.

Maybe next time?
I just bought an E92 this AM. I already have a Z4 that my kids absolutely love riding in. I was torn between an E92 and an E93. At the end of the day, I decided against the E93 only because many times it's too damn hot in N.C. I find myself driving with the top up. Plus I'm getting older so the sun damage on my skin isn't healthy. Gotta keep those wrinkles away.

Congrats on the E93. You'll love it and your kids will love it.

I drove several M3s, and got an E93 because I wanted a vert in CA. The idea that the top weight somehow ruins the car is a thing I mainly hear from people who drive their M3 on public roads 90+% of the time, at which point literally a few tenths of a second doesn't matter, because you're not drag racing. There are a ton of cars are far less powerful than the M3 that I'd bet good money a good driver on the track will smoke anyone here with, myself included (I have many, many track days under my belt and still do not consider myself anything past amateur) in an M3 of any kind.

OP:
This is the same thing as the DCT/manual debate. I got a DCT, because I wanted one. It's faster than the 6MT. But to believe for a minute that unless you're competitively racing that makes any functional difference is a complete fallacy. Buy whatever makes you happy.

I've seen verts of the M3 (as well as many other cars) punish their slicktop counterparts because they had a much better pilot.

If you live in a state where the weather is good, trust me, bombing a canyon with the top down at 8k RPM is one of the best experiences you'll ever have. The only regret I have sometimes is that a 2-door of any kind is a bit annoying if you're loading a lot of people in.

Just a suggestion OP. Create a poll on how many guy's wives bought them an M3 E93, or even an M3, and you may understand your position a bit better. A simple Yes and No poll would do the trick.

Living in Northern CA I can't imagine a better 4 seat car than the E93, and yes I have tried both an E92 and an F version. Enjoy your awesome car, and your awesome family, mine works out just fine for wife and 11 yr old daughter. As someone else said, 90% of the time you will not notice the weight over an E90/92 and the top down 8k redline experience will put a smile on your face every time.

See, I disagree here. If OP's wife is this self-aware of her spouse's desires and happiness enough to gift him a M3, I feel like their relationship must be more than healthy enough to have open communication about how he more than appreciates her gesture but maybe an E90 would best suit the family's and his needs. Then again, if it was, this thread wouldn't exist. :

The really interesting thing about the E93 is that it's a convertible that's even easier to live with in colder climates than in the warmer ones. I basically forget that I'm even driving a convertible when the top is up, and at this point it would seem laughable to drive around in cold weather in a soft top convertible.

Yep, exactly my feelings as well. The M3 is first and foremost a street car for my family to enjoy on nice days, and for that it's absolutely perfect.

I have buyers remorse too. I wish mine had as supercharger already installed.

How very generous of you..my m3 is 1st and foremost a car for me to enjoy on nice days. I can't drive it quite as..."spiritedly" and practice rev-matching with the family in the car with me. I personally much prefer having a roomy SUV for nice day family activity. I feel like my e90 is too small for my infant son, wife and 12 year old and I could not imagine cramming everybody into a 2 door (my wife forced me to get an e90), but whatever works for you guys!
