Power rear sunshade delete
Not sure where I should post this, but I am planning to delete the power rear sunshade in my 2013 E92 M3. Unfortunately, I am having difficulty figuring out the part number for the replacement panel. It is very ambiguous on RealOEM.com which part pertains to cars without a power rear sunshade.
I'm hoping maybe someone here has deleted theirs or replaced a panel on a car that did not come with the power sunshade from the factory and can therefore give me the correct part number. If it helps, I have the premium sound option in my car. (As to why I want to delete it, I never use the feature and wouldn't mind dropping a bit of weight from the car.) |

Really? Even with the motor unit? I gotta believe it's at least 10 lbs. total, which is worth it for something I never, ever use.

Just curious if OP ended up removing the piece and possibly weighed it? I am also thinking about removing it to save a few pounds.

Stupid suggestion but why don't you just remove the motor and leave the shade? If the weight is the real problem? Just my two cents

The hassle of removing this doesn't make sense when you can save weight from simple other mods. Get a lighter wheel/tire combo, dump the plastics in your engine bay, strip out the rear and backseats. 10lbs doesnt seem like much at all. You'll be maybe 0.0000005 seconds faster .ck |

I did some research on swapping out the rear shelf for one without the shade for the weight savings. Google is your friend, see link below:
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...04#post9640504 Youtube has vids of the dissasembly as well. Ended up being more tearing apart of the interior than I wanted to go through so I haven't done it. With my luck, I'll break tabs and end up with rattles after reassembly. Last edited by M43S7RO; 12-12-2016 at 07:14 AM.. |

There are several versions of the panel, that's why its hard to accurately track down the right PN. Standard audio doesn't have the speaker grilles and mountings like the panel for the Individual/Professional Audio versions.
As of last time I checked: Individual/Professional Audio, w/o rear sunshade #51466956522 Individual/Professional Audio w/ rear sunshade, # 51466956525 Basic Audio w/o rear sunshade # 51466956513 Basic Audio, w/ rear sunshade # 51466956519 Shameless plug: I have a couple of different non-shade panels for sale if you want to save some money over online prices... |

They are not pre wired. It's two wires. I think bmw sells a retrofit kit.

I ended up going through with the delete and would happily sell you all the parts I removed for your retrofit. Not looking to make a killing. PM me if interested.

Adding information for reference. I removed the sunshade and weighed it at 6.4 lbs using a bathroom scale.
In five yrs of ownership, I tested it once when I got the car and once again in the last few months and it jammed and had trouble getting it back down. Never used it to actually shade anything as I dont see it as very beneficial, even in AZ. It may be useful I suppose to someone with a rear facing baby in a car seat. |
