that's got to make me feel better. like most of you, if not all, I plan to use the care for daily driving/commute.

Public humilation lasts longer than money

my dad gets about 8-10mpg on his 740il when he drives it a little hard(maybe he gets less since the gauge is only show from 8-40mpg?) so 8mpg for a ultra fast high revving f1 v8 engine is amazing imo

In the Swedish Supercar Shootout 2, I bet the slightly modded M6 would beat a Supercharged Viper.....and it did.

Since this is a fuel economy thread and I really have no desire for deep humilation of a fellow BMW enthusiast.....

How about the loser puts Prius or "Hybrid" sticker on their car with photos.

Personally, I wouldn't mind losing to have a Hybrid sticker on the back of the M6.....people might get confused

That's not humiliation, that's just funny. I don't think stickers are so good for the paint though, even though it will be your car, not mine. How were you going to attach it?

Just some 2 way tape.... So it won't harm the surface...

A bet, finally

Shoot I have tried to lure many folks into bets on topics I am certain about. I often say "if I was a betting man" or flat out offering to bet pink slips. I've never got a single taker. I think this is a good bet, in good spirit and is quite fun. We'll have to get a person from the UK or EU to settle it in the Sept./Oct. time frame. Any volunteers?

BTW I wouldn't make the bet myslef, you have the known incredibly thirtsy M5/M6 as one piece of evidence and BMW claiming the new M3 has better efficiency than the old model. I guess I'm leaning in mkoesels corner.

So you want to swap the $100 wager to the loser putting on a "Hybrid" or Prius sticker on their car? I am OK either way but honestly let's have a little fun.... $100 doesn't buy much fun (insert your joke here).

I'll gladly volunteer. My car will be here in first week of October at worst. I currently have the E46 M3, although I'm now averaging 27.2 mpg as my commute is shorter and has more town driving in it. I'd also suggest waiting till the running in period is done before checking the average ....

Cheers .. DC

That's better than I've ever gotten in my car, even when I was doing 90% highway driving. In fact your post above about getting 30mpg is the single highest number I've ever heard for an M3. But since you are the first to volunteer, I'm cool with you being the test subject.

This is for my original bet of $100.

Now, if anyone wants to bet, specifically, that theRealDC will see at least 22.5 MPG with his car then I am happy to do the public humiliation thing. Since this thread is all about 11 mpg on the track, one of the "sky is falling" folks will surely take this bet, since I am basically giving you over double that number. No?

But for that bet, lets dispense with the boring sticker thing.

How bout the loser must drive around with a blow-up doll in their passenger seat for a week? We can split the cost of the doll 50/50.

Anyone?

Hey, the E92 M3 must be equal or better than 27.2 mpg.....this is a real data point.

Absolutely. $100 bet is on.

Anyone with the balls to take on my other bet? Surely some E46 driver who gets less than 22.5 mpg right now (I sure as hell do) will have the cojones to take that bet.

What about you T-Bone? What kind of mileage to you get in the E46 M3?

I got 19.8 mpg when I had the M3, mainly highway driving....

I just want to make sure we are betting on the same thing.... You are betting the E92 M3 will have 27.3 mpg or better.....

Yes. Well close. Specifically, I am betting you $100 that the theRealDC will get "equal or better" than 27.2MPG in his new E92 M3.

You will probably win that bet.

Didn't know you sold it, cool.

Either way, since you only managed 19.8 mpg in your old M3, surely you don't think theRealDC in his new ultra-gas-hoggin V8 powered E92 M3 could possibly manage 22.5mpg. Right?

Will you take that bet? Or anyone else?

Mkoesel - do you concede defeat? I think there is ample data that shows the new M3 is worse than the E46 M3 for fuel economy.

$100 or do you want to work out alternative payment?
