Question Car won't start.. Hear fast clicks, but wont start

My 2013 E92 M3all of a sudden threw a Check Engine light and went into limp mode. I restarted it but it would only click really fast but wouldn't start. I got it towed to a local shop and these are the codes it gave him.

He said it could possibly be the battery terminal because when he charges the battery, it drains really fast.

I recently did a secondary cat delete also.

Has anybody experienced this before?

By some of the codes you have, it tells me a bad Battery. How old is the battery ? If the battery is kaput it wont hold a charge no more.

The battery is 7 years old, never been replaced. According to the CARFAX, it's been recharged 3 times. I ordered a new battery and hopefully it solves the problem

I feel he got overwhelmed with all the codes. He's not a BMW specialist, which is my fault for letting him work on it

Going to have it towed to my house from the shop so I can install the new battery. Hoping for the best

At 7 yrs old, I'd just change the batt first and take that out of the equation.

It's clearly not the battery. There's a short somewhere. I'd seriously consider obtaining a replacement engine harness. There are plenty of them out there for cheap. And having your mechanic spend many hours tracing the existing one for a short could easily end up being more expensive than just telling them to swap a replacement in.

Burning coils? I’m going to take back my earlier advice. That’s not a battery problem. Although at 7 years you do need a new battery. Hope it works out for you.

well, it's coils, plugs or injectors. doubt it's going to be wiring harness... doesn't just get melted all of a sudden. How old are the plugs? Just do the cheap stuff first. Change plugs, then coils, re-check.

Have you replaced the starter? Looks like you had a code for that. When pressing ignition do you hear 1 click? I had similar problem, the click I heard was the gear on the starter kicking out to engage the flywheel but wasn’t able to turn it to start the car. Started out taking several tries before being able to start to finally having it completely fail.

Edit: just saw your other post on the coils and stuff so you likely don’t have the same problem I did. Good luck and keep us posted.

Multiple coils don't melt on their own. Plugs don't cause that, either. And I don't see how injectors would cause coils to melt, either.

It's pretty much either DME or wiring harness or both with those symptoms. Especially given how it runs normally on one bank and is melty on the other.

Edit: And while grounds are important (I just had to dig through my truck's wiring harness to find a bad ground), I don't really see how a bad ground cable would cause one baank to get melty and one bank to run normally. I can't think of any grounds that are separated in that way that wouldn't just point to "replace engine harness."

My guess it's the alternator. When they go bad, they can throw all kinds of wonky codes.

Have you tested the alternator?

Also, I hope your mechanic registered that new battery with the ECU... Otherwise that new battery and/or the alternator might be getting fried (possibly causing the burning?)
